You don't have to fight against everyone. I was saying that us obeying does not take away grace. We can only obey with His presence, His love. Without surrender to Him and His Spirits presence, it is Judiasm and legalism.

Saying we have to do good works by surrender and obedience to Christ does not take away grace as the Devil likes to distort. We can only do good by Him in us.

Of course everyone should do nothing but good works. But good works are not the basis of gaining eternal life in Christ. They are also not the basis of "keeping" eternal life (whatever that would mean).

Here Jesus promises us IF YOU are obedient:
Matthew 6:14
For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
You will not even be forgiven IF YOU do not forgive other people!
Matthew 6:15
But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Doing good, bearing fruit demonstrates us being in Him, which is necessary for salvation.
"Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit...
If anyone does not abide in me, he is thrown away like a branch that withers; and the branches are gathered and thrown into the fire, and burned. ... By this my Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit and so prove to be my disciples." John 15:5-8

When Jesus was speaking to THEM, THEY had a specific mission as members of the nation of Israel.
There was a specific fruit that they were to bear.
