Who is the Lord of the Sabbath

When will you ever learn, that the Hebrew day did not begin in the morning, but when the sun set on the daylight hours of the previous day. And the Israelites left Egypt as the sun set on the 14 day of Passover, which was the beginning of the 15th day and the first day of the Festival of Unleavened Bread.

The Passover was celebrated on the 14th day:

"And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD" (Num.28:16).

With this in mind we can know that the passover was already over by the time the 15th rolled around:

"And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians"
(Num.33:3).

That means that a new day did not begin in the evening:

"And they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the first month at even in the wilderness of Sinai: according to all that the LORD commanded Moses, so did the children of Israel"
(Num.9:5).

It was a high Sabbath annual and weekly...it was not a whole day of preparation but a preparation for the passing over at midnight....

I'm a very simple person, not well educated ... can you simplify your post?

I'll phrase my question differently, at what time of day was Jesus buried according to scripture?

And how about a scriptural validation.

What you have to understand is that the Sabbath rest began in the evening of a calendar day and that rest carried over unto the evening of the next calendar day. The calendar day did not change in the evening but instead in the morning.

Here we can sse that the calendar began in the morning, as the dawning of the sun:

"In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre"
(Mt.28:1).

The two Marys came to the tomb as the sun was coming up in the morning (Mk.16:1-2).

OK, I didn't realize this was such a tough question.

Does anyone know?

Lots and lots of speculation and side-stepping, but it's evident no one can answer the question of what time of day Jesus was buried.

We'll let Luke answer.

This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen and laid it in a tomb that was hewn out of the rock where no one had ever lain before.

That day was the Preparation and the Sabbath drew near. (Luke 23:52-54)

What does the term "drew near" mean in the Greek.

It was the day of preparation and the Sabbath was beginning. (Luke 23:54 NET)

How did they know the Sabbath was beginning?

Because the sun was going down. But you do not even attempt to answer what I said earlier. The sabbath rest began at sunset but the Jewish calendar day begin at the rising of the sun. The Passover was celebrated on the 14th day:

"And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD" (Num.28:16).

(Num.9:5).

The evening came when they began to eat the passover but it remained the 14th calendar day. Therefore, common sense dictates that when that evening came the calendar day did not change but remained the 14th day of the month.

They started Friday as the sun went down...hurried as the Sabbath drew on...but even hurrying there was much to do...

They also had to pause their work because the annual Sabbath of passover was also occuring and they were to eat the meal...both according to the commandment

They went back to embalm and bury Him properly after the sabbath and found the tomb empty Sunday morning...

Yup...told ya a lot had to be done to bury Him proper...

No way you are going to bury Him and celebrate Passover and Sabbath all at once certainly not before the sun set...

To hasten their deaths to get them off the crosses...

Was that so the men would not be on the crosses when the Sabbath began?

After that Sabbath was past the women bought spices to anoint the body. (Mark 16:1)

The women prepared the spices and the rested on the weekly Sabbath. (Luke 23:56)

The Passover is killed on the 14th, the preparation day and eaten that night after sunset.

The preparation day was for the removal of leavened products before the Feast of Passover began.

The Feast of Passover lasts for seven days during which unleavened bread must be eaten.

Therefore, the Feast of Passover and the Days of Unleavened Bread are concurrent from the 15th to the 21st.

Preparation day is when the Passover is killed and then eaten that night which begins the 15th.

Jesus died on the 14th and was buried as the 15th began.

And 72 hours later he was raised as the first day of the weeks began.

The Passover was celebrated on the 14th day:

The Passover was killed on the 14th, properly bled and skinned, and then roasted. It took hours to roast the Passover.

The NT Passover is much simpler. We do not kill a Passover animal and roast it and all that stuff.

I bless the NT Passover symbols of broken bread and wine, eat a little piece of bread and drink the sip of wine.

Simple, and I like simple.

The Sabbath was Saturday, which began as the sun set on Friday afternoon, and finished as the sun set on Saturday afternoon, which was the evening that began the day of Sunday, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, who was the wife of Cleophas and mother of Jesus, Joseph and James, came to the tomb on Sunday morning, the day after the Saturday Sabbath.
