Hold on there ......
Since you are the one that brought up asking for the Holy Spirit's control, why haven't you answered as to whether the Holy Spirit has control of you when you sin????
Which is it, you in control of you when you sin or the Holy Spirit in control of you when you sin?
The Holy Spirit is in control of me, but I'm still in this flesh also so I do sin but I would find it very very hard to purposely sin anymore. If we have the Spirit of truth then we should be being guided to turn from sin. I'm overcoming my flesh daily as God gives me the power through Christ by the Spirit. I'm not perfect, I still sin but I really hope not wilfully. And what I mean by that is, I might say or do something wrong then realise and I know it's a sin and I go to God and pray for forgiveness and try and put it right if I can, but I can't be deceptive, I can't purposely wilfully lie before God, I can't wilfully do what I know is wrong before God. I fear God too much. And from reading the Bible I know that is wrong to wilfully sin before God. And I know that it's better for me to be honest than to lie or cheat because God is no fool, he won't be mocked, and he chastises us, just as a natural loving father does when he chastises his children in the right way. So it's better to suffer for doing right and deny ourselves to live by the will of God, than for doing wrong and listening to Satan and to be overcome by him through lust.
I listen to my conscience as I know that God is guiding me, without God I wouldn't even see my sin and I would be tossed too and fro by Satan. But I know that God is with me, and through Christ he is helping me to turn from sin. I couldn't do it without him.
I believe that to wilfully sin is to go against God, and those walking in the Spirit should be finding it very hard to purposely sin, the stronger we become in God, the less we should be doing so, the Holy Spirit cleanses our hearts, and Christ casts our devils and helps us to overcome them.
Just read those verses I quoted, they clearly show us is wrong to purposely sin.
And there's these
1 John 4
Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world
James 4:7 - Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Galatians 5:16 - This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past,
that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
James 1:15 - Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
Those who walk in the Spirit are to obey God and turn from sin when they know it's wrong before God to do what they do, we are to listen to our conscience which should be strong when we belong to God. Many seem to suggest that it doesn't matter what they do, their sins are covered, but God does mind what we do when we know him and know the truth, and he won't be mocked.
