The 50s was great for kids! I think the 60s may have been more confusing agree? I do agree, to some extent that the 50s were a bit bland for young adults? I liked it, then I do not know any other time as well. My kids had the 70s and early 80s.

Haha, speaking of the lingo, 'on drugs'; never heard of it then, parents my age did know it; my mama would have said, " you not on them, they are on you"

I was in HS in the mid-late 50s.

I enjoy the candy, especially the candy sold at a massive discount on November 1st.

I'm also fascinated by an apparent surge of interest in Samhain and All Saints' Day among educated young adults, especially those attempting to more thoroughly avoid the commercial aspects of the various holy days onto which American capitalism and marketing has latched.

Halloween appears innocent. But it it's origins are very dark. From the RC Church.
traddling the line between fall and winter, plenty and paucity, life and death, Halloween is a time of celebration and superstition. It is thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts.

yes, halloween appears Innocent, giving candies to children dressed in cute costumes. But lets consider what we are conditioning children for. There future. A dark season or a season of light in Christ ?

Hallowed be thy name.....The ONLY Name that is hallowed-revered. God the father-in our Christ

Hallowed be thy name. It is the same word that in other places is translated sanctified. But here the old word hallowed is retained, only because people were used to it in the Lord's prayer. In these words, (1.) We give glory to God; it may be taken not as a petition, but as an adoration; as that, the Lord be magnified, or glorified, for God's holiness is the greatness and glory of all his perfections. We must begin our prayers with praising God, and it is very fit he should be first served, and that we should give glory to God, before we expect to receive mercy and grace from him. Let him have praise of his perfections, and then let us have the benefit of them. (2.) We fix our end, and it is the right end to be aimed at, and ought to be our chief and ultimate end in all our petitions, that God may be glorified; all our other requests must be in subordination to this, and in pursuance of it. "Father, glorify thyself in giving me my daily bread and pardoning my sins,"

A little scary for the very little ones who don't understand what's going on.

Lots of fun and excitement when they get a little bigger. That's my favorite time to watch them. :)

Still fun for the tweens and teens because they can hang out with their friends and have fun with the costumes.

In recent years, more and more of the adults are getting back in the game.

And now it's a marketing/money-making gold mine and that's too bad.

I think it's good to have a kind of "kids day". And I think it's fun for them to dress up and 'trick or treat' adults. I do think we should focus more on it being attached to the fall harvest then on death and ghosts and all that.

Adults like to dress up in costumes and party, too, but I think their costume party should be New Years, or something, so they can focus on the kids on Halloween. (Or as I'd call it "Harvest Eve".)
