Ok, do you think she should be in jail for this?
I think she should resign going to jail was her choice.
Ok, do you think she should be in jail for this?
She's an elected official not a regular employee.
She is a martyr, she is in jail, that is what makes her one. She is in jail for failing to violate her conscience and for her religious beliefs.
You guys are acting as if she is some kind of martyr, which is ridiculous. No one is forcing her to work for an institutions that does something she disagrees with. She has no real principles, she wants to have her cake and eat it too. She wants their money, but refuse to do the job she is assigned to do. Not to mention that she is not exactly a beacon of the sanctity of marriage (as if that is a factor in marriage in a purely secular form anyway) herself, last time I checked she has married 4 times, 3 divorces.
Let me rephrase the last thing I wrote as a question:
Would you support her if she was a conservative Muslim who refused to issue a marriage certificate to a non-Muslim man and a Muslim woman?
If not, you are simply a hypocrite. The US is not a Christian theocracy, appealing to church laws or biblical principles is irrelevant. The only thing that matters for a person who wants to earn their living off of a government institution is to carry it out according to the laws of the secular government.
Are you okay with a government official being paid $80,000 a year for a job she refuses to do?
yes if it is based on religious freedom
I disagree, she has rights too and the right to reasonable accommodation and not being forced to violate her beliefs are one of them.
I would go to jail too rather than violate my conscience before God.
Were you ok with putting gays in jail when it was the law,
Nope. She is in jail for failing to do the job she was paid for. Last time I checked, resigning is a possibility.
She has a constitutional right to freedom of religion and reasonable accommodation for such, see the constitution and the law from EEOC on reasonable accommodation (already posted, look back) She cannot be compelled to act against her religion.
If she'd resigned from her elected position saying she couldn't carry out her legal duties because of her religious beliefs, I would have respected her decision.
Im real sure shes more worried about Gods respect than yours, but thanks for playing.

You just can't get past your personal animosity towards me and stick to the argument itself, can you?
yes, and? They need to fire her, and let her fight it out in court, or they need to make the law in the state such that other clerks can issue the licenses to allow for reasonable accomodation.
She should not be in jail.
Do you think she should be in jail, yes or no?
I think she should resign, if she won't then she should be in jail until she resigns or complies.
I see, so when atheists refused to pray at school, they should have been jailed for it till they complied, and you would have supported it, got it.
Wow, so much hypocrisy.

:chuckle: Last I heard, the atheists at school weren't elected officials whose salaries are paid by the taxpayers.

Well anna, i guess you don't reckon there were ever any atheist teachers, principles, or elected officials etc.
Got anything else brilliant?
