Ill answer it - yes, when she was elected, giving marriage licenses to gays wasnt part of her job description.

Were you ok with gays being put in jail for being gay when it was the law?
Right, but it is now. Her position has changed and she was presented with a choice. Take on her new job duties or don't. She made her choice and there were consequences.

Davis said that she knew that same-sex marriage would become an issue when she was elected to take the place of her mother — who had held the office for nearly 40 years — last November. “I would have to either make a decision to stand or I would have to buckle down and leave,” she said. “And if I left, resigned or chose to retire, I would have no voice for God’s word.”
That’s why when the Supreme Court legalized same-sex marriage, she issued an office edict barring any of the clerks from issuing any marriages at all, in an attempt to skirt charges that she was discriminating against same-sex couples.
She knew exactly what she was doing.

I disagree, she has rights too and the right to reasonable accommodation and not being forced to violate her beliefs are one of them.

I would go to jail too rather than violate my conscience before God.

And? She has rights too.

Were you ok with putting gays in jail when it was the law, yes or no, you seem to have skipped my question while you hound others to answer yours.

It kind of messes up your whole argument then, doesn't it? Because she did know.

I ignored it because I was focused on one issue only with my question, yours had nothing to do with it, and the question wasn't for you anyway. Deal with it.

A good example presented yesterday; if a Muslim man works at the DMV and refuses to give a woman a drivers license because it is his religious belief that she should not be able to drive, should he face consequences?

No, she didn't "know" till it happened. Irrelevant completely since it was not law when she took the position.

:thumb: Fine with me if you like looking like a hypocrite.

chrys would say no he shouldn't. He should continue to be paid to not do his job based on religious freedom.

maybe it really is as simple as not putting ANY Clerk's name on it -

have a judge's name, court name, minister, and all other information. it can say witnessed and initialed by such and such county/town/city CLERK.

it's a decent paying secure job, but personally, i wouldn't want my name on it either, having nothing to do with the wedlock except stamping and signing off on the licence.

my driver's licence doesn't have the DMV clerk's name on it !
