Who Here Chose To Be Heterosexual?

There was no choice to make. Always liked girls, always have, always will.

That there's zero choice involved doesn't sit well with bigots because they're prudent enough to realize how distasteful it is to hate someone for who they are.
It doesnt sit well because its always trotted out as if its justification. We can hate all kinds of people for who they are and for good reason. (Put that up on "fundy's say the darndest things" :chuckle: )

The point is - people have a lot more choice in this arena people on either side of the fence like to admit. A straight person, especially one who views homosexuality as sinful, would never normally say that they have a choice in the matter and could explore alternative relationships if they wanted; and if morality wasn't an issue they might even find they liked it. Homosexuals in turn use it as a defense, saying they were made that way and don't have a choice in the matter. However, they might also find their boundaries expand on this matter.

I think this is close to my view. I didn't choose to have heterosexual attractions. They just developed. And I believe that's true for anyone else too. However, I do think there can be flexibility in some cases. And I do believe that there are biological factors involved.

Being heterosexual is the natural state of humanity. Homo's are created through perversion. I didn't chose to be heterosexual, I just am. It does not follow then that homosexuality is not a choice either.

Sexual attraction doesn't begin from birth. It develops during puberty. What do you think led to you just being heterosexual? Social factors? Biological factors? A combination?

Who Here Chose To Be Heterosexual?
I have no idea how many.

But the real question is who lets themselves be ruled by their desires, instead of trying to avoid their desires.

Some are more susceptible to some things than others.
What matters is that those who are should try to avoid those situations.

Theft is one example.
Kleptomaniacs are more susceptible to stealing than others.
It should still be avoided, no matter how strong the desire is.

Alcoholics are another.

Pedophiles are another.

Compulsive liars are another.

etc.

It doesn't matter what "natural" desire is within you. If it's wrong to act on that desire, attempts should be made to avoid acting on those desires.

I dare to say that every single individual has some sort of desire they struggle with, even though most of them may not be as horrific as others, they should still not be acted upon.

So, it doesn't matter what kind of condition you were born with.
It only matter if you let that condition get the best of you, and then try to justify it.

Well, I don't mind talking about my own though not really on open forum. In person or on skype or something maybe but yea I get what you mean. However, I just wanted to comment on him being racist and homophobic. It's interesting that he is homophobic. Most homosexuals dislike bisexuals on the premise that we are all promiscuous, faking it or can't be trusted. So we are like a minority hated by the minority :chuckle: . I don't really care personally, what anyone else thinks. I just find it funny he is giving it back to them!

Do not tempt me to skype you! Recipe for disaster! My step brother just sings at me for hours -facepalm-.

I choose whether or not to act on my hetero sexual inclinations on a regular basis.

Of course there is. It obviously gets your goat but I didn't start it with the intention of using it as a 'weapon' and several others have managed to debate the topic without some preconceived intent on my part. I don't tend to shy away from calling a 'spade a spade' Delmar so if the sole intention of this thread was to be contentious merely for the sake of it I'd have no problem admitting it. It wasn't, although I did know it might spark some intense debate. So? I've spoken the truth in it from my own perspective and I could care less if you see it as anything different frankly. project as much as you want.

Imagination does that sometimes....

So you have no agenda? You started this thread simply because you thought people might be fascinated by the fact that you were born straight?

A combination of factors and a body developing the way God intended it to, plus a lack of being molested or other events.

I would make this my POTD if I was still a subscriber. :first:

It seems some people are more predisposed to certain sins than others. It matters not what we desire to do but what we actually do. It's also important to realise that our identity is in Christ and not our sinful desires.

If someone grows up and realises that they have homosexual feelings which they didn't choose, it is still their choice whether or not they embrace it. Once one calls themself a homosexual then they assume the identity of their sin and act upon those desires.

the bottom line is that it matters not what one feels but what one does in response to those feelings. Call upon God or give in to them?

I dunno about that one. I was "attracted" to my first grade teacher. She had real long chestnut brown hair that for some odd reason I couldn't keep my eyes from. In retrospect, this was basic sexual attraction....from a six year old.

And yes, brunettes still do it for me!

Actually I would genuinely like to read how some perhaps more fundamentalist Christians explain their own sexual preference if it is not in fact genetic. I think that the truth is that some folks will tend to confuse what they are taught to believe, like religion, with what simply happens naturally anyway. IOW they learn to think that they learnt their sexuality too because kids are simply expected to learn all things like they learn to read or their religious beliefs.

Eh? The OP is a question for starters so why on earth would I think anybody would be 'fascinated' by my own claim to have no control over attraction? I'm interested in what other people have to say on the subject so if that counts as an *agenda* then hey ho. By that logic you'd have to bunch in a whole load of other threads with the temerity to have a question in the title....

Very perceptive of you, I long came to realise that those who possess an unfalsifiable argument are only vulnerable to the power of contradiction.

Edit: I think he means

Furthermore, how could you *choose* to be homosexual if you're straight?

How did Adam and Eve choose to sin against God?

Heterosexuality is God's design, hence Adam and Eve,

not Adam and Steve.

How did Adam and Eve choose to sin knowing that God called all He did "very good"?

How is it that anyone chooses error?

Why do people steal?

Why do people worship false gods?

Why do people commit adultery?

Why do people choose to reject the words of the Creator of the heavens and the earth?

Pick me! Pick me!

Is it because we live in a society of immature primates of which a high majority are under the impression they have divine permission for their actions? Does it also have anything to do with the fact that some of these hypocrites oppress the poor and support the plutocracy we have in place worldwide?

Nevermind, it's something simpler isn't it?

You're certainly right about that. I'd just ask that you consider the kinds of people you're agreeing with. History doesn't really look on 'em kindly...

Yep.

Moses chose not to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season, but chose the afflictions of the people of God.

Hebrews 11:25-27

There is some pleasure in sin, but it is fleeting and temporary.

Moses saw the truth and chose truth.

Moses had the greater pleasure of serving God and seeing God at work. It had its pressures, but God was always there for him.
