This Prom Poster Was Intended to Inspire Moral Decisions. But an Offended Student and Atheist Activists Just Took Major Action to Have It Removed.

.....Tomasik told TheBlaze that the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which reportedly fired off a letter to the school district about the posters, also took issue with the fact that her Christian organization’s logo was on display under the controversial silhouette.

The atheist organization argued that religious groups shouldn’t be permitted to post messages in public schools.

Manitowoc Public School District Superintendent Marcia C. Flaherty admitted in a statement this week that the flyers “did not promote any religious theme or institution” and that they “are not involution of school district policy,” thought she said that they had been taken down.

“Posters have been utilized for a number of years and, like past years’ messages, this poster was one of several merely intending to promote a positive prom experience,” she said in a statement to WBAY-TV. “No particular religious standard or expectation was being promoted.”

That said, Flaherty said that reaction to the posters showed officials that the posters could be interpreted in ways outside of the intended meaning and that the school has removed them in hopes that the “focus of prom can return to what should be a positive social experience.”

yeah this isnt ok either:

I think the placement of "charming" sends the wrong message....I'm offended..... :madmad: :sozo2:

Seriously:

The posters, which are handed out to other schools in Manitowoc County as well....

But that poster......was seen as offensive by Kelsey Schindl, a senior at Lincoln High School.

There's always one! :AMR1:

They're not trying to interfere with the religious rights of Christians . They're trying to keep Christians and Christianity from getting power in America , and they're absolutely right to do this !
It's not only atheists who are trying to do this, but many others who are concerned about preventing a Christian theocracy in America .
It's CHRISTIANS who are whining ! They're the persecutors, not the victims . (Not all Christians are guilty of this of course ).

Appeals court upholds Jesus statue on Montana mountain

Appeals court upholds Jesus statue on Montana mountain

A 6-foot tall statue of Jesus that has spent the last 60 years overlooking a northwestern Montana ski hill may stay there, a federal appeals court ruled Monday.

story

The Knights of Columbus placed the statue on U.S. Forest Service land on Big Mountain in the mid-1950s as a memorial to World War II soldiers and it remained in place with few complaints for decades.

The Flathead National Forest decided in 2011 not to renew the 10-year permit for the statue near a run at Whitefish Mountain Resort, but reversed the decision due to public outcry.

"The Court rightly rejected Freedom From Religion Foundation's radical idea that a privately owned memorial standing in the middle of a ski resort violates the Constitution," said Eric Baxter, senior counsel with the Becket Fund, which defended the Flathead National Forest, forest supervisor Chip Weber and the U.S. Forest Service on appeal.

Putting up religious neutral posters promoting morality is not "persecution." That is absurd. Since when did exercising the right of free speech become "persecution." The courts have allowed the Establishment Clause to be taken way beyond its intended meaning, and have welcomed all this ridiculous litigiousness. They should have just stuck to its original clear intent. That the federal government can pass no laws establishing a state religion. Putting up moral posters in schools and teaching the virtues of morality in school is not passing a law which establishes a religion. Without a federal law to complain about, most of these asinine court cases would go away.

May I suggest liberals familiarize themselves with the plain language of the 1st amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Police cars' 'In God We Trust' decals draw complaints

Police cars' 'In God We Trust' decals draw complaints

A police department in a Texas Bible Belt community has placed large "In God We Trust" decals on its patrol vehicles in response to recent violence against law enforcement officers, drawing criticism from a watchdog group that says the decals amount to an illegal government endorsement of religion....

...In fact, of the dozens of complaints about the decals lodged in recent months by the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion Foundation, about half were sent to law enforcement agencies in Missouri. Departments in Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Virginia and elsewhere also received complaints from the foundation, which says it will consider suing but acknowledges it can be difficult finding a plaintiff willing to be publicly identified as challenging the use of the phrase.

Gary Parsons, the sheriff in Lee County in Virginia, said his office spent a total of $50 to have the decals added to about 25 vehicles. He said many people feel their belief system is being trampled and that adding the phrase is a way of pushing back.

"It's not only a symbol of moral values but also a symbol of patriotism," he said.

In its letter to Nichols, the foundation said, "Statements about a god have no place on government-owned cars. Public officials should not use their government position and government property to promote their religious views."

Should these decals be removed or are they perfectly legal?

They are as legal as the phrase on our federally issued legal tender.

So not at all.

So sue over the money. Let me know what happens.

In the meantime, you might want to read this:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aronow_v._United_States

The Court ruled:

"It is quite obvious that the national motto and the slogan on coinage and currency 'In God We Trust' has nothing whatsoever to do with the establishment of religion. Its use is of patriotic or ceremonial character and bears no true resemblance to a governmental sponsorship of a religious exercise. ...It is not easy to discern any religious significance attendant the payment of a bill with coin or currency on which has been imprinted 'In God We Trust' or the study of a government publication or document bearing that slogan. In fact, such secular uses of the motto was viewed as sacrilegious and irreverent by President Theodore Roosevelt. Yet Congress has directed such uses. While 'ceremonial' and 'patriotic' may not be particularly apt words to describe the category of the national motto, it is excluded from First Amendment significance because the motto has no theological or ritualistic impact. As stated by the Congressional report, it has 'spiritual and psychological value' and 'inspirational quality.'"[1]
