:sigh:...

This has already been hashed out on other threads, yet you continue to make the same rational errors in this matter. To point out the obvious one more time: the recent clergy sex scandal has involved less than 2% of priests in the Catholic Church. This means that more than 98% of Catholic priests never committed such crimes, and should not be painted with the same brush as those who actually did commit these acts. Much less should the Catholic Church as a whole be condemned on the basis of the personal sins of a tiny portion of its clergy. Moreover, this percentage among Catholic priests represents a number much smaller than the clergy in other, non-Catholic, denominations and sects. Your anti-Catholic zeal has simply taken you beyond the bounds of a reasonable or rational critique.

Incorrect; the two percent statistic you keep harping on came from deeply flawed data, as we've previously discussed. This is a conspiracy that extends to the highest levels of the papacy: a conspiracy to abuse and torture children, hide these crimes from civil authorities, and avoid punishment and prosecution. This has happened for decades (that we know of) involving thousands of clergy (that we're aware of) and thousands upon thousands of savaged, nightmarishly abused children (that we know of) on every continent on Earth (with the exception of Antarctica).

Your inability to admit as much just shows the level of your self-deception.

P.S. As if a "mere" portion of the clergy excused any of this behavior whatsoever! You're loathe to condemn what's occurred even within the fictional, imaginary framework of your abusive "two percent." Incredible.

Granite - what do you think should be done to the Catholic Church as punishment for these heinous crimes?

eta - (besides whining about them on the interwebs)

So being angry because children are being abused is whining? Prove that they are not being abused. It's immature to accuse someone of "whining" when they speak up about what they perceive to be a wrong. Was Jesus "whining" when he pointed out the hypocrites?

Thanks for being infatuated with me, but I was asking Granite what he thought should be done to the Catholic Church.

[ Hos 3:1] mmmmm - raisin cakes.
Tasty.

A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump [Gal. 5:9].

"In Scripture, both Old and New Testaments, leaven is always used as a principle of evil. In Matthew 13:33, when the woman hid leaven in three measures of meal, the leaven was not the gospel. It may be the kind of a “gospel” that is passing around today as legal tender, but it is still evil. In fact, Paul says that it is no gospel at all. The Lord Jesus warned His disciples of the leaven of the Pharisees (see Matt. 16:6). I think we need to be warned today of the leaven of legalism. It is an awful thing. Legalism says that when Christ died on the cross for you and me over nineteen hundred years ago, He did not give us a full package of salvation, but that I have to go through a ritual of baptism or seek something else from the Holy Spirit to get the rest of it. My friend, I received it all when I accepted Christ. Now I may have experiences after I am saved, but that does not add to my salvation. Christ is the One who wrought out our salvation. The Lord Jesus said that the woman would take the leaven and hide it in three measures of meal, symbolic of the gospel. In other words, leaven has been hidden in the gospel—and that makes it palatable to the natural man.

I was brought up in the South, and I never knew there was any kind of biscuits but hot biscuits. My mother used to bake them every day. Even yet I can see those biscuits in the dough stage, rising on the back of the stove. When they reached a certain height, she stuck them in the oven. They had leaven in them. When the biscuits were done, I would put butter and honey on them. There was nothing better! That is still my favorite dessert. There is a lot of leaven being put in the gospel today to make it more palatable. Natural man likes the leavened bread. It tastes good. However, we are warned not to do that."

Do you think the Roman Catholic Church today is the same church as the church in 431?
Christ's historic Catholic Church has not changed in its essence in two thousand years, any more than the oak tree has changed in its essence since it grew from the acorn from which it began.

:nono: Sorry, try again:

Yes, you just keep banging away on a single drum constructed out of anti-Catholic distortions, non sequiturs, stereotypes, and canards, and expect everyone to simply fall in line with your grossly imbalanced conspiracy-theory-esque declarations. No one is denying that the clergy abuse scandal has occurred. However, intelligent and informed individuals will wisely avoid your hysterical distortions and misrepresentations of the details, as well as your gigantic non sequitur of equating the personal sins of a relative few with the supposed actions of the whole. (Time for an Intro. to Philosophy course, seriously.) In any case, I'm not going to pursue this any further here, especially since you've been corrected on these and many other points on other threads. Find a different "argument" to attack Christ's historic Church with; this one just isn't going to work for you. :nono:

Monastic tradition trumps anything I've read. I'm a non-Catholic Christian who has had my Faith re-jump started several times from my retreats to the Gethsemini monastary in Trappist, KY.
Aren't we all guilty of being 'conformed' to this world via technology, TV, movies, sports, all-American big business, or simply accepting our 21st century lifestyle as acceptable to Christ's teaching?
The socialists have it wrong as well attempting to wed a secular philosophy with our Lord's truth.
When will all us Christians get it right?
