I'd hate to be in the military, but if I had to serve I couldn't care less about my comrades' sexual preferences.

I did serve with people who I knew to be homosexual. Didn't bother me any. But then, I never had any doubt that I was heterosexual.

For me it'd be a non-issue. I'd be more concerned with whether or not they were doing their jobs well.

Precisely. It's telling that some of those who have such an issue with homosexuality presume they'd be the 'object of desire' of any gay person simply because of matching gender. It's almost as funny as it's ignorant and sad.

I don't like being around openly gay people. They gross me out. I guess I was born that way, I hope you can tolerate me.

It annoys me that they want so badly for me to know what they do in their bedroom. I don't want to hear that stuff. I certainly don't run around telling other people what I do in my bedroom, why should I want hear about their bedroom?

The gay people I have worked with seem attention starved. It doesn't seem to me they are looking for acceptance as much as they are looking for attention. It strikes me as extremely immature.

I'm a heterosexual but I think for the most part I am in "the closet" because I don't make it a point to let anyone know about my sexuality. After all, is that something we really need to discuss in the workplace or other public settings? When people say it's wrong for homosexuals to remain in the closet I ask why? Why should we promote discussing our sexual habits openly? :idunno:

I would not like serving in the military with openly gay soldiers. I think it would be a serious distraction from the task at hand which is our military obligations.

Better question might be, other than the Barbarian, who here served with gay men or women and how did it go?

Don't you think that everyone should just shut up about they do in the bedroom? If you tell me you're gay or straight, fine. But, I don't want to hear about your exploits either way.

It wouldn't distract me, but as christians it is our responsibility to make ourselves clear that we believe homosexuality is a sin. If homosexuals are comfortable coming out of the closet, then christians have to get comfortable coming out of the closet with their bible. This might make things difficult if the homosexuals take offence, but at least they'll know where they stand.

Exactly.

But here is the thing... if we make a point to allow openly gay people in the military how could we possibly ask them to NOT discuss what they do in their bedroom? In other words... what the gays are asking for (acceptance in the military to be completely open about their sexuality) is more than ANYONE should be allowed regardless of their sexual preference.

:ha: Trust me when I tell you.... Christian's will not be allowed to be openly Christian in their beliefs regarding homosexuals (or anything else).

Christian beliefs are strictly forced into the closet in the military, public schools, government, etc. etc. etc.

It's almost to the point where Christianity is illegal in this country.

Openly gay? Does that mean they skip in formation or just wear their uniform better than the next guy? I mean, we don't refer to heterosexuals as openly heterosexual. A peculiar usage, to my mind and one that only has meaning while being gay is forbidden among the ranks.

Wouldn't bother me any more than serving with a liberal or a right winger would.

Really?

And what if this openly gay person flamboyantly talked about his exploits on a daily basis as a way to gain attention and you were forbidden to ask him to stop? I've worked with gays and they tend to be attention starved and enjoy trying to "shock" others by reminding everyone constantly about their bedroom activities and attractions.

Furthermore... men and women's barracks, bathrooms, showers, etc. are separated in the military for obvious reasons but with openly gay soldiers they wouldn't be separated from the other men. Doesn't that strike you as a bit odd? Or at very least awkward?

In the army they'd be watching porn films, have their playboys, cuss every other word, tell dirty jokes, talk about the women they'd like to...you know. I can't see how adding some homosexuals to the mix would make much difference. Regardless of our christian rights, we have to be christ-like, and if it means telling it like it is from the bible, so be it. Obviously we have to use wisdom and not bash them over the head religiously. We can be nice, sincere, and understanding people, but with strong convictions.

Yes. I've zero interest in hearing about anyone's sexual exploits. I've heard all sorts of stories/innuendo from people in the workplace/elsewhere and it's just annoying and frankly tedious. Somehow though I doubt it's going to be a major topic of conversation either straight/gay while in a combat situation.

That's where I think you are wrong.

By mandating that gays can be "open" you eliminate the ability to ask them to refrain from causing distraction therefore causing a much unneeded disruption.

In other words... if gays are to keep in the closet (like everyone else) the only possible disruption that is gays must keep to themselves like everyone else should.

We ask our military to do a great deal for us. We shouldn't add this unnecessary distraction to their already difficult job.
