Prefaced with I don't share the view that racism moves much of the right anymore than I believe that the Democratic party is a socialist movement...okay, that said...
Nah. If the answer to "What's wrong with our country?" could be set at the feet of the Democratic party and occasionally controlled Congress then every ill could have and would have been reversed under a Republican dominated Congress and that didn't happen. This isn't a party problem, it's a people problem...as in, let's see what I can get from special interests (right or left) and for my constituents that will keep me in power, long term consequences be hanged.
Of course it's a people problem. Most of the movers and shakers concerned are Democrat party power players. You don't believe the Democrat party has become a socialist movement? Read the bills proposed by the Democrat leaders in Congress. Hate crimes, cap-and-trade, health care reform, to name three. Yes, both political parties have been playing "kick the can" on long-term fiscal problems. Yes, the Republican party (national level) has been largely unresponsive. Now that you've spread the blame evenly, you're still stuck with the basic problems.
And how did the Obama campaign evidence racism? :squint: As for "the only" bit, it depends on how you mean it. I don't recall "Don't elect the N[redacted]" signs at conservative rallies, but I do recall the Muslim nonsense and stress being placed on things as significant as his second name...these are the more socially acceptable labels to bandy about in an attempt to marginalize someone and point out their (real or imagined) distinction and difference from the main stream. As for Carter's comments, while I don't share the broad sentiment and ascribe it to his age and experience, I do understand it to be far more reaching than many here appear willing to accept.
I believe you recall that which is convenient for you to recall. As far as former President Carter is concerned, I don't have to marginalize him. The Democrat Party has.
By way of anecdotal, I was at a rally for a candidate I support recently who was running for a commission post (and hold onto your socks, Frank, he's a conservative Republican) and among those at the rally and equally enthusiastic in their support were men and women of color...but while I was eating (the famous Southern political fish-fry) an older, well educated and respected member of the community, discussing Obama, said, "I still can't believe this country elected a [redacted] President."
I'm sure that was enlightening and broad-brushed an identifiable segment of the population as conservative Republican. I counter with a local minister I know who is a liberal Democrat. He told me, back in '08, that a vote for McCain was a vote for racism.
It goes like this in the South, each generation takes a step forward but the progress is a long way from complete. One of my grandfathers disdained the race. His son didn't and I find the practice peculiar, but I watched my father's generation struggle with their discomfort while reaching about for some other hook to hang it on. Republican strategists knew this and offered a few.
I'm sure they did.
You're naive if you believe that...or it's different in your neck of the woods (and if so, thank God for it, but I saw the same sort of hooks being gleefully supported to the north and west and east of us).
:darwinsm: I suggest you look to yourself for a classic definition of naive.
Okay, that's just nonsense and you know it.
Try again. A glib phrase or two doesn't cut it.
Last I looked the economy was widely thought to have improved since and was wrecked prior to his taking office.
I'm sure you have looked carefully at "widely thought" and believe it. I believe the breezy assessments offered by our mainstream sources are not that accurate.
What governments and how do you arrive at this?
I read their news sources and talk to their people. The rest will be called history, at some point.
If he crawled on his belly (instead of offering a gesture echoed by any number of foreign heads of state) he couldn't lower the world opinion more than our past holder of office did by means of real and meaningful action. So if I have a ceremonial nod on the one hand and a unilateral act of war/invasion on the other...
lain:
Party line stuff.
Why don't they just do like you and eat their own?
:darwinsm: It's more fun to watch you lefties do it. They're much more vicious and bloody about it, albeit less public.
They can call them DINOs...
I've seen that one lately. Tell you what. Let's take the RINOs and DINOs and call them Democrats and Republicans Aligned In Name Only. We'll call them DRAINOs.
Wrap yourself in the Drudge Report...cause there are some things I wouldn't wish on a dead fish.
Careful! Comments like that will encourage me into profiling mode. :chuckle: The Drudge Report does not compare in any meaningful way to either the Daily Kos or the Huffington Post.
