With the name calling of: "you're a turd" there is nothing of instruction of the why and how to's for the other person to change their ways.
Aren't Christians supposed to pull people up rather than put them down. To be an example to the world? To love his neighbor?
Putting someone down without a concern of how that affects their soul? Sounds antagonistic to me... sounds like behavior that St. Paul said that those who engaged in such behaviors would not inherit the kingdom of heaven. Galatians 5:19-21
Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,
21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.
These behaviors, in this instance a touch of variance with a big load of hatred, (yes, name calling is a form of hatred) can be overcome. All it takes is a decision to do so, but maybe the delight that is taken in this behavior has overcome the name caller?
Do consider what God hates:
These six things the Lord hates,
Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:
17 A proud look,
A lying tongue,[/U]
Hands that shed innocent blood,
18 A heart that devises wicked plans,
Feet that are swift in running to evil,
19 A false witness who speaks lies,
And one who sows discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19 (NKJV)
God's hatred is different that mankind's.
What are we to do instead of name call? We are to walk in the Spirit, to keep our concerns to do with heavenly things as said in Colossians 3:2 (NKJV) Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
And you are thinking of excrement? Calling another person who is made in the image of God, excrement? It is written (paraphrased): What is in the heart is what comes out of the mouth.
How low into the earth does a turd go?
Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.
Rather, it looks to be putting yourself down... very low... what with your mind on excrement and spewing out of your mouth "turd", as you have said. How low into the earth does a turd go?
Identifying bad behavior is exhortation. It is encouraging another to be who they really are, which is love: for we are made in the image of God who is love.
St. Paul said: For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Galatians 5:14
If you were to be called all sort of vile names repeatedly, would you feel loved by that person?
Nice attempt at a re-direct to take the attention away from the point, which is that name calling is never called for a disciple to do.
Don't forget too: The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. Matthew 10:24
And, St. Paul said: " Let your speech at all times be gracious (pleasant and winsome), seasoned [as it were] with salt, [so that you may never be at a loss] to know how you ought to answer anyone [who puts a question to you]." Colossians 4:6 (AMP)
How is calling some one a turd, your expression, gracious speech?
