Homeschooling vs. Public Schooling

My problem with home schooling is, where is the misery?
getting frost bite waiting for the bus.
eating a soggy sandwich in a dirty lunch room.
fighting with a bully.
carrying 30 pounds of books on your back.
faceing piles of homework every night cause some teachers think their subject is the only one you're studying.
listening to some liberal teacher drone on for an hour with thier own personal brand of nonsense.
school isn't about learning.
it's about getting used to how bad life is gonna suck

I found your list of "homeschooled" high achievers quite fascinating. Based on your other posts, I have a general idea of some of your beliefs and values, so I was intrigued by your inclusion of a number of homosexuals (Noel Coward, Leonardo da Vinci, etc.), notorious adulterers (Claude Monet, etc.), socialists (George Bernard Shaw, Sean O'Casey, etc.), atheists (John Stuart Mill, Shaw again, etc.), and a polygamist (Brigham Young). I hope you will re-think the list, as it might make some Christian parents hesistant to choose homeschooling, if this is what it leads to!
Holly, I've no doubt that Dread Helm knows about the sins of Brigham Young, and probably others on that list. His point of the list is not to turn anyone away from homeschooling, but just the opposite. Yes, there were homeschool socialists, adulterers, and polygamists, so what? They didn't turn out this way because they were homeschooled. There are many great people on Dread Helm's list that were homeschoooled that people can look up to, including Christians like C.S. Lewis, Jonathon Edwards, Charles Wesley, and others. I think Dread Helm included a good balance of homeschoolers. :)

I'm glad you have such a positive outlook on life.
So you're trying to say you are jealous of homeschoolers because their life isn't "hard"?

Jujubee, Good News! Even a bad job of homeschooling will be better than a normal job of private school (we wont' even mention public school).

And it isn't hard to do a good job homeschooling. You can read, can't you?

Jujubee,
Most parents have apprehensions of one sort of another prior to homeschooling. However, once they start, many realize it's not nearly as hard as they thought, and wish they would have started sooner. Teaching your child the right things is really not that big a deal. Homeschoolers often follow textbook or other curriculum programs that make sure you get "everything" in. :)

Holly-
Where did you get the information that DaVinci was a homo?

It's fairly well known, look his bio up on wikipedia or any other general encyclopedia. No big deal.

That's the cool thing about homeschooling. If you don't know, you have plenty of information at your fingertips. Christine in the Homeschoolers thread listed many references to good curriculum. If you want to know what a "zealot" is, look it up in the dictionary! If you are thinking about homeschooling, you should definately visit the Teachers section on TOL!

I am rather skeptical of that. Homosexuals want everyone famous in history to be known as a Homosexual (ie. Abraham Lincoln, Jesus Christ).

Never heard that honest Abe or Jesus were gay, but if thats what you heard, okay. I dont see what the problem believing that DaVinci was gay.

And I dont think they have sinister plot or anything like that. They're just people who like the same gender as them. Nothing to evil right there.

I know a Homo wrote a book about Abraham Lincoln and how he was a homo. He was featured on Bill O'Reilley.
Homos have been saying for year that Jesus was gay with "The Disciple that Jesus Loved". :vomit: Obviously that is a sick and twisted idea.

Except for the fact that the Homosexual life-style is utterly destructive. But, that's a different topic, so let's not hijack the thread.

Sure, I got no problems not hijacking the thread. Still, they dont have a plot to make the whole world gay. Just saying.

Skepticism is fine, as long as it is based on critical evaluation of the available evidence and not clinging to presuppositions or basing the argument on completely unrelated material. It is a matter of public record that in 1476, da Vinci was formally charged with sodomy involving Jacopo Saltarelli, a 17-year-old male model and prostitute, although the charges were later dropped for lack of witnesses. There is no record of da Vinci ever having a relationship with a woman, and he never married, but he had many close relationships with males over the years, including good looking young boys who were supposedly involved with him as "apprentices" but who showed no particular evidence of artistic talent. His notebooks were full of sketches of male nudes, but rarely of females. This and other relevant information is not new and certainly pre-dates "gender studies" analysis of historical figures. Did he proclaim himself to be a homosexual, as people are free to do today? No, of course not. He would have been imprisoned. Perhaps it makes you uncomfortable to think that one of the greatest artists in the history of the world, and the creator of religious masterpieces such as "The Last Supper" and "The Virgin of the Rocks" was a homosexual, but it makes no sense to dismiss the reality of something just because you would prefer it to be otherwise. As Granite suggested, anyone can easily find out more about this artist by using your search engine.
