I just had an argument with someone over the socialization issue, the other day. They said that kids needed to go to public school in high school at least.

:chuckle: My mom's late-husband used to argue with me about socialization issues all the time. I think he just liked to argue about it because even after he saw that :jessilu: was suffering no ill effects from being homeschooled, he would tell me that she need to be in public school for socialization.

Put it this way: If you homeschool during elementary school because of the socialization problems they have, why in the world would you want to put your child in a public high school, where the problems are multiplied by ten?

Hey, not to put too fine a point on it, but some of those famous people came from families that were quite well off. I mean, George Washington's family had slaves to work their plantation, didn't they? That would open up time for parents to homeschool.

Also, were any of those people taught by tutors?

Certainly T.R. and F.D.R. were. It is not that important, I'm sure some on the list were indeed educated by their parents.

Do you guys ever watch that "Trading Spouses" show? Reason I ask is because the other night they had this Wiccan family on that took their kid out of school at 6th grade in order to home school her. But it wasnt your wholesome type good homeschooling she only was allowed to study magic and Wicca. I could not believe it!!!! I felt so sorry for this kid. She was talking to "fairies" and believed there was a 1000 pound dragon on top of the house.

(just in case....I'm not posting this because I'm against homeschooling, I am pro-homeschooling)

I would hope that everyone would agree that there can be unhealthy applications of Homeschooling (like this one). But the majority of people that are homeschooled are better off than they would be in Public Schools.

Also, I find it interesting that they give an example of bad homeschooling on national TV.

To say that you have the same integration with your peers as someone who goes to school is just wrong. With hindsight (something you don't have DreadHelm), you are missing out.

Would you like to respond to my arguments, or are you just going to continue to make assumptions?

First of all its not an assumption. Secondly thats not how debates work. You can't set up an opening post and then tell me what I must argue. I argue what I wish and it is your responsibility to defend your position. Thirdly its in line what other people were discussing.

I chose my first point. Your response actually shows that your education has been lacking in interaction. I will be happy to continue if you show maturity, if you don't or are incapable of doing so, then I just won't bother.

Public school hardly encourage socialization. You can't socialize much during the four minutes between classes, and with a 25 minute lunch, you're lucky to make it through the line before the bell rings. Even if you do, you haven't got any time to socialize -- you're too busy eating. Besides, kids socialize after school and other times too, so it's not like they're missing anything.

Of course it's wrong:
Dread didn't have to worry about meeting drug dealers in the hallway.
He wasn't distracted in a classroom of disruptive students.
He wasn't harassed by bullies and losers.
He wasn't pressured by his peers who were blindly buying into the liberal propaganda.
He wasn't oppressed by a socialist organization which spawns little commie robots.
He wasn't held back by a system which refuses to acknowledge excellence because it isn't fair to the losers in his class.
He wasn't forced to participate in dopey 'social activities' in which he was not interested.
He didn't have to waste his time listening to a bunch of commie losers who don't have a clue.
He didn't have to waste his time go to and coming home from school.

With hindsight (something you don't have DreadHelm), you are missing out.

No you stupid friggin' commie, YOU are missing the point.

I compete in scholastic debate and that is exactly how debates work. There is a subject, and the affirmative defines the topic. Then the Negative has to refute the Affirmative's arguments. And that's what you are in my thread: the Negative.

You must lose quite a bit then. The title/topic is "Homeschooling vs. Public Schooling" and I addressed it. It might not be the avenue you'd like me to go down but that means nada to me. You might be used to adults that allow 'Dreadhelm' to be 'Dreadhelm' and cut you a bit of slack but that just doesn't get you anywhere. I raised a significant and relevant point and acting spoiled over it won't help your cause.

OEJ, we have already worked out that you are incredibly bitter towards your lack of education/qualifications. Fact is if you homeschool you don't learn to deal with your peers in a work environment.

BB, I realise you are just trying to get a rise out of me. I've mentally pushed you to one side with my palm. You're a bit like OEJ but without the bitterness.
