I grew up on secular music and spent years playing in rock n roll/blues bands, writing my own songs and playing covers like Zeppelin, The Doors, Hendrix, the Stones, The White Stripes, Sublime, Nirvana, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf etc. Since converting to Christianity, I find most of secular music to be evil, and have stopped listening to the most vulgar of it, but still do listen to some of my favorites.

Love it ... though not so much the current stuff. I will forever be stuck in the era of 1960's through 1990's.

It's not that I mind the lyrics of Christian music, it's more the sound. The only Christian band I ever semi enjoyed was The Imperials.

Give the Christian lyrics to Fleetwood Mac, and I might give it a listen.

The music is fine, it's the lyrics that are often foolish.

I agree, there are so many talented musicians, yet meaningless lyrics.

I listen to Simon and Garfunkel's music and sing along. They are not offensive at all. I also like Paul McCartney's music after broke up from Beatles.

The eagles are super talented too yet their lyrics are not so good at all.

they are all super talented.

Once the commercial potential of music became apparent the business side of it was quickly taken over by those with an appreciation of it. At that point those whose saw its potential as a tool of societal programing joined hands with the bean counters and then ... well, here's what we got.

But I find almost all modern 'Christian' music among the most detestable of all.
I can't stand it, either! The whole in love with Jesus message makes me want to hurl. And I'm not to fond of the hymns with all of the bad theology either.

I'd much rather listen to some cheesy love songs from the 70's, classic rock and all of that 80's music from the good ole MTV days, including new wave. :)

Are you talking about the words or the music itself? Some people would consider disco ungodly (for example). What does that do to this:

Boney M or Psalms?

The same group has done some less than edifying songs as well.

I guess I don't see a difference between saying someone likes a song with lyrics that don't uplift and saying one approves of and listens to what blatant haters of God say. The music just adds a different dimension to the listening experience.

That said, I quite enjoy older folk music and rarely find a rock song that I really like. Though it does occur on occasion...

As I write this, my 4.5 year old is singing "Last Christmas," which she must have heard at preschool. Although I know it's been redone since, I cannot help but associate it with old sodomite group Wham.

Weren't they the group that wore those sweaters that read "Choose Life"?
