That said, how does TOL suffer if someone isn't as biased, is by definition more fair? Who is harmed by it?

One of the few things I don't like about TOL is found in the whole bias business, politically applied. If the bias is a Christian sensibility I see it. There has to be a standard of conduct. A right wing bias just invites contempt for the rule and smacks of tariffs, that is a protection for a thing that can't stand on its own.

I don't happen to believe conservative philosophy requires extra protection and that's all it can amount to.

Biased doesn't require being unfair.

TOL is biased, and is also one of the fairest sites around.

TOL doesn't exist to be a utopia of "fairness".

Knight could ban someone for any reason whatsoever. In fact, he could ban someone for no reason at all.

I think a mod has to non-judgmental, fair and impartial, knowing when to separate the chaff from the wheat, fact from fiction, biblical truth and error, whose a shill and whose not, when it's spam and not the real McCoy.

Myself, I would not make a good mod, my time at TOL is daily but not clock work regularity.

I like to keep TOL oiled and encouraged, I think that's a gift.​

The posted rules are very fair, offering latitude and expression but also Christian representation and in that lies responsibility whether the discussion is regarding the faith or politics.

A wise person would leave themselves that caviat but since I've been here I have never witnessed unfairness of any sort on his part nor do I believe he would abuse the privilege.
