I'm convinced that they are trying to go out with a bang. They've realized they can't keep up their charade as a stable nation-state and so instead of just fizzling, they want to go down in the history books somehow, so they are going to start a war that they very much know they cannot win.

I have three grand sons in the military right now so yes, it scares me.
The one in the Navy is scheduled to be sent to Japan at the end of summer.
