The Palestinians were of Greek ancestry

The Palestinians were of Greek ancestry.

The Philistines came to the land of Canaan from Caphtor and other western coast-lands.
Caphtor is now called Crete and the people are called Cretans.
They warred against the Canaanites for their land to establish Palestine.

The Palestinian people were not, and are not, of Arab ancestry. The Arab people who now live in Israel and want to reclaim Palestine; saying that, they are the Palestinians, this is not true. What is true is that they are Arabs who wish to reclaim Canaanite land.

Note: See Jeremiah 47:4 and Amos 9:7.

The Philistines invaded Canaan about 1400 B.C, and a Hebrew settlement of Canaan about 1200 B.C.

In A.D. 135, the Roman conquerors renamed the land of Israel, Provincia Syria-Palestina, after Israel's ancient enemies, the Philistines. From that time forward, all those living there were known as "Palestinians."

At that time, Arabs hadn't even dreamed that "Palestine" was their land. That ambition would not take hold for another 500 years until the advent of Islam, and even then Arabs would not call themselves Palestinians.

In World War II, Britain had a volunteer brigade known as "The Palestinian Brigade." It was made up entirely of Jews. The Arabs were fighting on Hitler's side.
As late as the 1950s, Arabs refused to be called Palestinians and declared that if there were such a people, they were Jews.

To the British Peel Commission in 1937, a local Arab leader testified, "There is no such country as Palestine. 'Palestine' is a term the Zionists invented."

Professor Philip Hitti, an Arab historian, testified to an Anglo-American Committee of inquiry in 1946, "There is no such thing as Palestine in history—absolutely not!"

To the UN Security Council on May 31, 1956, Ahmed Shukairy declared, "It is common knowledge that Palestine is nothing but southern Syria."

In 1964, Shukairy became the founding chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization and coined the infamous slogan, "We'll drive the Jews into the sea."
And he wasn't even a "Palestinian"! Like Arafat, he was born in Cairo.
The Palestine Liberation Organization was not founded by Palestinians but has been used in Islam's war against Israel.

Today's Arab "Palestinians" are close relatives of the Arabs living in neighboring countries, from which most of them, or their immediate ancestors came.

The people who live in Palestine now are the same people who lived in Palestine back when Israel was carved out of their country against their will.

 There were Canaanite nomads in the land, whom in that day were related to the Arab tribes. The Philistines came to the land of Canaan from Caphtor and from other western coast-lands. There was no nation in the land at that time.

There has not been any independent country of Palestine in all of history.

_____
There Was Never A Country Called Palestine

If you consider Palestine to be a "Sovereign" and "Independent" country that goes back through most of recorded history as many would have you to believe, then a few questions need to be answered:

When was it founded and by whom?

What were its borders?

What was its capital?

Who was the President?

What was its form of government?

What were its major cities?

What constituted the basis of its economy?

Who was the Palestinian leader before Yasser Arafat?

Was Palestine ever recognized by a country whose existence, at that time or now, leaves no room for interpretation?

What was the language of the country of Palestine?

What was the prevalent religion of the country of Palestine?

What was the name of its currency and what was the approximate exchange rate of the Palestinian monetary unit against the US dollar, German mark, GB pound, or Japanese yen on any particular date?

And, finally, since there is no such country today, what caused its demise and when did it occur?

There were Canaanite city-states in the land then. They were established long before the Philistines showed up- starting in the Neolithic, and they existed as walled cities in the Middle Bronze (2,000 BCE). They were not nomads. They were under Egyptian control for much of the time. There wasn't anybody related to the Arabs there at the time.

The Sea Peoples, of whom the Philistines were one kind, invaded the land in the 13th and 12th century BCE.

Learn some history.

What does this have to do with anything? On the flip side of that, you can say the same thing of Jewish inhabitants of Palestine before 1948.

I was referring to the 1940s establishment of the Jewish state. Not the one from 3000 years ago

You are wrong. This info from Wikipedia is extremely wrong.
Quote: The name "Canaanites" (kana`nīm, chanani) is attested, many centuries later, as the endonym of the people later known to the Ancient Greeks from c. 500 BC as Phoenicians...

The Phoenicians built cities in Canaan, the Canaanites did not. The Canaanites were Nomads. In 500 BC the land was known as Judea. There is some kind of hanky panky going on.

Does the Quran say that?

And even if both do, religious texts aren't a basis for nation-making

Well, that was one of the reasons the UK in the Balfour Mandate said.

I do believe Israel is of the Jews. There can be no denying that.

The implementation of that is another thing entirely.

In an attempt to assuage the pain of the holocaust, the Jews were and have been treated like the little brother of the west since. So I guess I shouldn't be surprised that a little irrationality was used in the establishment of the state

The bible is a title deed to the land of Israel. Unless you want to argue that the words of God do not count.
Quran:
[Sura 5:20] Recall that Moses said to his people (the Jews), "O my people, remember GOD's blessings upon you: He appointed prophets from among you, made you kings, and granted you what He never granted any other people."

[Sura 5:21] "O my people, enter the holy land (Israel) that GOD has decreed for you, and do not rebel, lest you become losers."

Later in the Koran, in order to make it clear and leave no doubts that the Jewish G-d had given ownership of the land to and set the mission of the Jews, Mohammed took additional time to repeat the writing of the Torah in Sura 7 about the Jews and Moses:

[Sura 7:137] "We let the oppressed people inherit the land, east and west, and we blessed it. The blessed commands of your Lord were thus fulfilled for the Children of Israel, to reward them for their steadfastness, and we annihilated the works of Pharaoh and his people and everything they harvested."

[Sura 7:144] He said, "O Moses, I have chosen you (the Jews), out of all the people, with My messages and by speaking to you. Therefore, take what I have given you and be appreciative."
