I chose mine because I liked the simplicity.
Fighter jet shooting down spam. Pictorial of what I do as a mod. I get rid of way more spambots than I place troublemakers in timeout.
Generally boards like this tend to discourage personal photos and real names, Stan. But it is your choice. Sometime trolls like to follow people around the internet. Anonymity prevents that.
we do - LOL ha ha - kiddin'
It bad form on a board like to press others to post their personal photos or real names. Not everyone is blessed with pleasant features or nice sounding names. If you want that there is Facebook.God has not given US the spirit of fear, but of BOLDNESS. Those I don't want to hear are on my ignore list. I haven't seen one sight that doesn't have an ignore list.
I really don't understand the fear of exposing our real selves, or at least our face and name.
IMO, anonymity also makes people act the way they do because there is no recourse. We are not called to give a reason for our faith in anonymity.
IMO, boards discourage openness because of their own liability issues.

I'm NOT pressing anyone, I'm expressing my opinion. People will do what they will do, regardless of my opinion.
I have to wonder though, how many people go to church with an avatar over their head?

Safety. Every now and again, we end up with individuals who take things WAY too seriously.
True....I've even seen them take our avatars way too seriously. :kookoo:
So ... we are not our avatars? But I am Snow White! I am, I am!!!
It is my opinion that it is what is on inside the person that counts not is what is not the outside. Some folks get too hung up on externals. Pictures that people put on the profiles are often a expression of the inner man. Forums like this often give people a chance to get away from externals and focus on theology without some troll picking at their big nose or lack of hair.I'm NOT pressing anyone, I'm expressing my opinion. People will do what they will do, regardless of my opinion.

There's no more recourse with a photo of someone you don't know and will never likely meet. So unless we're posting addresses and phone numbers a photo isn't going to really expose anyone to any particular intrusion. I think honest people are who they are and dishonest, or frustrated people, those who feel angry and powerless in their lives will feel emboldened by anonymity. They're the same sort you find throwing rocks from a crowd....IMO, anonymity also makes people act the way they do because there is no recourse.
There aren't many real liability issues and anonymity is, in part, a solution to that potential, since it's hard to claim an injury to person or reputation at law when no one knows who you are.IMO, boards discourage openness because of their own liability issues.

Mine is ME. Fairly straight forward. I never understood why adults want to use avatars on a discussion forum.
Actually I do understand why SOME do...they want to be anonymous in EVERY way.
I have no problem putting my face and name in front of what I believe.
