Back in 1971 I was involved in the campaign to elect George McGovern (against Nixon) and the leader of the group (and still my friend), Mike S, somehow got Nimoy to Fairbanks, Alaska in the middle of the winter to support McGovern. He was the most prolific, clear and quick minded speaker I've ever heard in my life---by far. The guy was brilliant.

A recent publicity jaunt to his hometown brought back all the memories for Leonard Nimoy, the first-generation son of an immigrant Russian barber.

I'm guessing dad wasn't too thrilled with his Vulcan haircut.
