RELIGION: Man's attempt to become like God.

Satan is the instigator of religion. He knew that if he could get God's created man to sin, that sinful man would try to get back in favor with God by the works of the law, which is religion. Fallen man is trying to return to the Garden of Eden by the works of the law, which is religion.

Satan told Eve that if she would eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, that she would be as God, knowing good from evil. Genesis 3:5. She and Adam bought the devils lie and brought a curse upon all of humanity.

Paul wrote, "Therefore by the deeds of the law (religion) there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law (religion) is the knowledge of sin, Romans 3:20.

What is the law? The law is the nature and the character of God. If one wants to know what the law is like, Jesus was God's law incarnate in human flesh, Romans 3:21. Jesus was perfect God and perfect man in one person. If one is going to fulfill the law by their obedience to the law, they will have to be not like Christ, they will have to be Christ. Jesus is not only God's law incarnate in human flesh, he is the epitome of the God's law.

The law is not just a bunch of laws and rules. The law is one body. James said that if you fail in one point of the law, you have failed the whole thing, James 2:10, and you have become a transgressor of the law, which is a sinner. Once you have become a sinner, you will remain a sinner. Obedience does not change the fact that you have failed to keep the law. Once a sinner always a sinner. Nothing is going to change the fact that you have failed to keep the law, not even repentance. Repentance does not change the fact that you failed to keep the law, nor will repentance save you. If that were true Christ died in vain. Teaching that repentance saves is anti-Gospel and anti-Christ.

You can stuff your mouth with wafers and drown yourself drinking gallons of grape juice, that is not going to change the fact that you are a sinner. Remember once a sinner, always a sinner. Religion will not save anyone. Paul said, "For as many as are under the works of the law (religion) are under a curse: for it is written, "Cursed is everyone that does not do all of the things written in the book of the law to do them" Galatians 3:10. The law calls for perfection. no one has what is required to fulfill the law, except for Jesus Christ. He fulfilled the law and he fulfilled it perfectly for us.

"To declare, I say, at this time HIS righteousness; that he might be just, and the JUSTIFIER of him that believes in Jesus" Romans 3:26.

The law included good things to do, and bad things not to do. The law also included purification/ceremonial works, those are works what one must do to clean themselves, just to be able to belong to God.

The seal of those purification works is CIRCUMCISION OF THE FLESH.

We have a new way to be purified, and it is by circumcision of the heart done by the Holy Spirit.

Nowhere anywhere are we told the new means we do not have to obey God anymore. It means we do not have to get circumcised in the flesh.

You are badly mistaken to believe and teach that we are not to be like God or try to be like God.

Romans 8:29 For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.

1 Corinthians 15:49
And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we bear the image of the heavenly man.

2 Corinthians 3:18
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

Philippians 3:21
who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Colossians 3:10
and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.

1 John 3:2
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.

Hebrews 2:11 Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters.

2 Corinthians 3:18
And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

God gives to every believer in his Son Jesus Christ the Holy Spirit. It is the purpose of the Holy Spirit to make us witnesses for Christ and his Gospel. It is not the purpose of the Holy Spirit to make us holy. We are called to live our lives before God as sinners. saved sinners. This is why Paul referred to himself as "The Chief of Sinners" 1 Timothy 1:15.

You cannot be an effective witness for Christ if you present yourself to the unsaved as being holy. They will see right through that and label you a hypocrite, which you are.

Satan is the instigator of FALSE religion. His goal was to turn man away from God and TRUE worship of God thus establishing false worship to himself.

The only true religion are those that are living by faith, "The Just Shall Live By Faith" not by rules, laws or religion.

Indeed. But Jesus also said "Faith without works is dead". To your original point though Satan never created religion. Satan created false religion which was a deviation of the worship and honor that belongs to God alone. The Bible makes a very clear distinction between true and false religion and which one (as per Jesus prophecy in Revelation) that is going to be saved.

Does faith negate the law?

Paul referred to the law in spiritual and carnal terms aka the spirit and the letter of the law. Faith does not negate the spiritual aspect of the law - For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin(Ro 7:14). Those who believe in Jesus and return to the letter or the commandments are under a curse.
