:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

For we are sojourners and pilgrims before You, as were all our fathers.
1 Chronicles 29:15
The days of our lives are seventy years; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet their boast is only labor and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. So teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. Psalm 90:10, 12

:poly:

Time, By Moments, Steals Away

Time, by moments, steals away, first the hour, and then the day;
Small the daily loss appears, yet it soon amounts to years:
Thus another year is flown, now it is no more our own
If it brought or promised good, than the years before the flood.

But may none of us forget it has left us much in debt;
Favors from the Lord received, sins that have His Spirit grieved;
Marked by an unerring hand in His book recorded stand;
Who can tell the vast amount, placed to each of our account?

Happy, the believing soul! Christ for you has paid the whole;
While you own the debt is large, you may plead a full discharge:
But poor careless sinner, say, what can you to justice pay?
Tremble, lest when life is past, into prison you be cast!

Will you still increase the score? Still be careless, as before?
O, forbid it, gracious Lord, touch their spirits by Thy Word!
Now, in mercy, to them show what a mighty debt they owe!
All their unbelief subdue, let them find forgiveness too.

Spared to see another year, let Thy blessing meet us here;
Come, Thy dying work revive, bid Thy drooping garden thrive:
Sun of righteousness arise, warm our hearts, and bless our eyes;
Let our prayer Thy heart move, make the next year a time of love!

:poly:

I am with you always.
Matthew 28:20

Moment by Moment

Dying with Jesus, by death reckoned mine;
Living with Jesus, a new life divine;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine,
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.
Moment by moment I’m kept in His love;
Moment by moment I’ve life from above;
Looking to Jesus till glory doth shine;
Moment by moment, O Lord, I am Thine.

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
2 Timothy 4:7-8

Find Us Faithful

We’re pilgrims on the journey of the narrow road,
And those who've gone before us line the way,
Cheering on the faithful, encouraging the weary,
Their lives a stirring testament to God's sustaining grace.

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses
Let us run the race not only for the prize,
But as those who've gone before us, let us leave to those behind us,
The heritage of faithfulness passed on through godly lives.

After all our hopes and dreams have come and gone
And our children sift though all we've left behind,
May the clues that they discover and the memories they uncover
Become the light that leads them to the road we each must find.

Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful,
May the fire of our devotion light their way,
May the footprints that we leave lead them to believe,
And the lives we live inspire them to obey
Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful.

:poly:

Increase our faith.
Luke 17:5

Faith, Hope and Love

O God of grace, increase my faith! Help me to daily trust Thy Word;
Give me the strength that always comes from leaning on my blessed Lord.
O God of grace, upbuild my hope! Let not a doubt my spirit sway;
Be Thou my constant shield of light that I may walk the narrow way.
O God of grace, inspire my love! Fill my cold heart with holy fire,
That I may live each passing day as my Redeemer doth desire.

Praise the Lord!

But You are the same, and Your years will have no end.
Psalm 102:27

For I am the LORD, I do not change.
Malachi 3:6

:poly:

God of the Changing Year

God of the changing year, whose arm of power
In safety leads through danger’s darkest hour,
Here in Thy temple bow Thy children down,
To bless Thy mercy and Thy might to own.

Thine are the beams that cheer us on our way,
And pour around the gladdening light of day;
Thine is the night, and the fair orbs that shine
To cheer its hours of darkness; all are Thine.

If round our path the thorns of sorrow grew,
And mortal friends were faithless, Thou wast true;
Did sickness shake the frame, or anguish tear
The wounded spirit, Thou was present there.

O lend Thine ear, and lift our voice to Thee;
Where’er we dwell, still let Thy mercy be;
From year to year still nearer to Thy shrine
Draw our frail hearts, and make them wholly Thine.

:poly:

You shall see greater things than these.
John 1:50

Press on, Press on, Ye Workers

Press on, press on, ye workers, be loyal, brave and true:
Great things the Lord is doing, and greater things will do;
His army, still increasing with each revolving year,
Shall send a sound of rapture forth that all the world shall hear.
Rejoice, rejoice, ye workers all, rejoice!
O clap your hands and sing, O clap your hands and sing!
God’s holy Church shall triumph yet, triumph yet, triumph yet,
And He shall reign our King, shall reign our King.

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

I will lift up my eyes to the hills — from whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.

Psalm 121:1

:poly:

Across the Sky the Shades of Night

Across the sky the shades of night this New Year’s Eve are fleeting,
We deck Thine altar, Lord, with light, in solemn worship meeting;
And as the year’s last hours go by, we raise to Thee our earnest cry,
Once more Thy love entreating — more Thy love entreating.

Before the cross subdued we bow, to Thee our prayers addressing,
Recounting all Thy mercies now, and all our sins confessing;
Beseeching Thee this coming year to keep us in Thy faith and fear
And crown us with Thy blessing — crown us with Thy blessing.

And while we pray, we lift our eyes to dear ones gone before us,
Safe home with thee in paradise, whose peace descendeth o’er us;
And beg of Thee, when life is past, to reunite us all at last
With those who’ve gone before us — those who’ve gone before us.

We gather up in this brief hour the memory of Thy mercies;
Thy wondrous goodness, love and power our grateful song rehearses;
For Thou hast been our Strength and Stay in many a dark and dreary day
Of sorrow and reverses — sorrow and reverses.

In many an hour when fear and dread, like evil spells, have bound us
And clouds were gathering overhead, Thy providence hath found us.
In many a night when seas ran high, Thy gracious presence, drawing nigh,
Hath made all calm around us — made all calm around us.

Then, O great God, in years to come, whatever may betide us,
Right onward through our journey home be Thou at hand to guide us;
Nor leave us till at close of life, safe from all perils, toil, and strife,
Heaven shall enfold and hide us — shall enfold and hide us.

:poly:

Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen,
and called its name Ebenezer,
saying, “Thus far the LORD has helped us.”
1 Samuel 7:12

Another Year of Life is Gone?

Another year of life is gone? Thus far thy God has helped thee on.
On mercies past, as years roll by, look back, my soul with grateful eye,
And now, once more, rejoice to raise Thy Ebenezer to His praise!
The unknown future lies before; its secrets seek not to explore.
Onward and upward tread the road from day to day marked out by God.
Faint, yet pursuing, thou shalt see, that as thy day thy strength shall be.
And when thy steps draw nearer home, fear not; the promised sign will come,
At evening time it shall be light, to chase the gloom from death’s short night,
Which swift as thought shall pass away, dissolved in everlasting day!

New Year 2014

New Year’s Hymn

Join your voices, rejoicing voices, new Year hymns again to sing;
For our new and many mercies, Lord, our heartfelt praise we bring.
Summer flowers have bloomed and faded, summer hours have come and fled;
By Thy care we still are aided, by Thy hand we still are fed.

Thou hast kept us, God of glory, since the last New Year began;
Still proclaiming the sweet story, of Thy wondrous love to man.
Shall we longer keep Him waiting, who for us hath waited long?
He to whom both soul and body, heart and life, and all belong?

From this moment, Holy Jesus, may our hearts be wholly Thine!
Then we’ll sing that best of praises, “I am His, and He is mine.”
Jesus! by Thy blood and Spirit, may we all Thy children be,
Then in Thee we shall inherit happiness eternally.

Lord of glory! we adore Thee now before Thee in another year;
May Thy heav’nly love abiding, be on every believer here.

The LORD bless thee, and keep thee: The LORD make his face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee:
The LORD lift up his countenance upon thee, and give thee peace.

Praise the Lord!

Behold, I am building a temple for the name of the LORD my God, to dedicate it to Him.
2 Chronicles 2:4

:poly:

Lord God, Let Me Dedicate

Lord God, let me dedicate, all this year to Thee,
In whatever worldly state Thou wilt have me be:
Not from sorrow, pain or care, freedom dare I claim;
This alone shall be my prayer, glorify Thy name.

Can a child presume to choose where or how to live?
Can a Father’s love refuse all the best to give?
More Thou givest every day than the best can claim
Nor withholdest aught that may glorify Thy name.

If in mercy Thou wilt spare joys that yet are mine;
If on life, serene and fair, brighter rays may shine;
Let my glad heart, while it sings, Thee in all proclaim,
And, whate’er the future brings, glorify Thy name.

If Thou callest to the cross, and its shadow come,
Turning all my gain to loss, shrouding heart and home;
Let me think how Thy dear Son to His glory came,
And in deepest woe pray on, “Glorify Thy name.”

:poly:

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me.
Psalm 139:23-24

Turn a New Leaf For Me

Turn a new leaf for me, Father, I pray;
This one is blotted, O take it away;
Cleanse all its stains in the blood of the cross;
Let me in Jesus find gain for my loss.
Turn a new leaf for me, Father, I pray;
Turn a new leaf in my life-book today;
Pardon me graciously, deal with me wondrously,
Turn a new leaf in my life-book today.

For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Isaiah 55:8-9

:poly:

Better Than My Best

I prayed for strength, and then I lost awhile
All sense of nearness, human and divine;
The love I leaned on failed and pierced my heart,
The hands I clung to loosed themselves from mine;
But while I swayed, weak trembling, and alone,
The everlasting arms upheld my own.

I prayed for light; the sun went down in clouds,
The moon was darkened by a misty doubt,
The stars of heaven were dimmed by earthly fears,
And all my little candle flames burned out;
But while I sat in shadow, wrapped in night,
The face of Christ made all the darkness bright.

I prayed for peace, and dreamed of restful ease,
A slumber free from pain, a hushed repose;
Above my head the skies were black with storm,
And fiercer grew the onslaught of my foes;
But while the battle raged, and wild winds blew,
I heard His voice and perfect peace I knew.

I thank you, Lord, You were too wise to heed
My feeble prayers, and answer as I sought,
Since these rich gifts Your bounty has bestowed
Have brought me more than all I asked or thought;
Giver of good, so answer each request
With your own giving, better than my best.

:poly:

What shall I render to the LORD for all His benefits toward me?
Psalm 116:12

Give of Your Best to the Master

Give of your best to the Master; give of the strength of your youth.
Throw your soul’s fresh, glowing ardor into the battle for truth.
Jesus has set the example, dauntless was He, young and brave.
Give Him your loyal devotion; give Him the best that you have.
Give of your best to the Master; naught else is worthy His love.
He gave Himself for your ransom, gave up His glory above.
Laid down His life without murmur, you from sin’s ruin to save.
Give Him your heart’s adoration; give Him the best that you have.

Isaiah 28:16

The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD,
And He delights in his way.

Psalm 37:23

:poly:

He That Believeth

He that believeth shall not make haste
In useless hurry his strength to waste;
Who walks with God can afford to wait,
For he can never arrive too late.

He that believeth shall not delay;
Who carries the word of the King on its’ way
Keeps pace with Jahovah’s marching tune,
And he can never come too soon.

He that believeth shall walk serene,
With ordered steppings and leisured mien,
He dwells in the midst of eternities,
And the timeless ages of God are his.

What Wilt Thou Have Me To Do?

Lord, Thou hast granted salvation to me,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
From Satan’s bondage at last I am free,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Since I am saved by the Crucified One,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
I would point others to God’s only Son,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Pardon is granted thro’ Him who hath died,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
I am so happy with Thee at my side,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Ready and willing Thy voice to obey,
What wilt Thou have me to do?
Bid me to follow Thee day unto day,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

What wilt Thou have me to do?
Where wilt Thou have me to go?
Jesus, my Master, Thy will shall be mine,
What wilt Thou have me to do?

Jeremiah 5:24

Now Sing We a Song For The Harvest

Now sing we a song for the harvest;
Thanksgiving and honor and praise,
For all that the bountiful Giver
Hath given to gladden our days.
For grasses of upland and lowland,
For fruits of the garden and field,
For gold which the mine and furrow
To delver and husbandman yield.

And thanks for the harvest of beauty,
For that which the hands cannot hold;
The harvest, eyes only can gather,
And only our hearts can enfold.
We reap it on mountain and moorland,
We glean it from meadow and lea,
We garner it from the cloud-land,
We bind it in sheaves from the sea.

But now we sing deeper and higher,
Of harvests the eye cannot see;
They ripen on mountains of duty,
Are reaped by the brave and the free.
O Thou who art Lord of the harvest,
The Giver who gladdens our days,
Our hearts are forever repeating,
Thanksgiving, and honor, and praise!

Genesis 3:8

:poly:

Christ In His Heavenly Garden

“Christ in His heavenly garden walks all day,
And calls to souls upon the world’s highway;
Wearied with trifles, maimed and sick with sin,
Christ by the gate stands, and invites them in.

“How long, unwise, will ye pursue your woe?
Here from the throne sweet waters ever go:
Here the white lilies shine like stars above:
Here in the red rose burns the face of love.

“ ’Tis not from earthly paths I bid you flee,
But lighter in My ways your feet will be:
’Tis not to summon you from human mirth,
But add a depth and sweetness not of earth.

“Still by the gate I stand as on ye stray:
Turn your steps hither: am not I the Way?
The sun is falling fast; the night is nigh:
Why will ye wander? Wherefore will ye die?

“Look on My hands and side, for I am He:
None to the Father cometh, but by Me:
For you I died; once more I call you home:
I live again for you: My children, come!”

He went out with His disciples over the Brook Kidron,

John 18:1

In The Garden

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,

Sunday Morning Praise

I Do Not Ask, O Lord

I do not ask, O Lord, that life may be a pleasant road;
I do not ask that Thou wouldst take from me aught of its load.
I do not ask that flowers should always spring beneath my feet;
I know too well the poison and the sting of things too sweet.

For one thing, only Lord, dear Lord, I plead: lead me aright,
Though strength should falter and heart should bleed, through peace to light.
I do not ask, O Lord, that Thou shouldst shed full radiance here
Give but a ray of peace, that I may tread without a fear.

I do not ask my cross to understand, my way to see,
Better in darkness just to feel Thy hand, and follow Thee.
Joy is like restless day; but peace divine like quiet night,
Lead me, O Lord, till perfect day shall shine, through peace to light.

Psalm 31:20
He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High

Psalm 91:1

In the Secret Place of God

He that dwelleth in the secret place of God, Most High,
When the days of biting bitterness and travail draweth nigh,
With the crimsoned lintel over and the sheltering solace sure,
Doth abide beneath the shadow of Omnipotence, secure.
Art thou dwelling in this hiding, underneath the sprinkled blood?
Is thy soul, by grace abiding “In the secret place of God?”
There is fullness there, and sweetness, all thy pow’rs find full employ,
Gladness, comforting, completeness, peace, and everlasting joy.

When the day began to wear away...they constrained Him, saying,
“Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.”
And He went in to stay with them.

Luke 9:12, 24:29

:poly:

Abide With Me

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

I need Thy presence every passing hour.
What but Thy grace can foil the tempter’s power?
Who, like Thyself, my guide and stay can be?
Through cloud and sunshine, Lord, abide with me.

I fear no foe, with Thee at hand to bless;
Ills have no weight, and tears no bitterness.
Where is death’s sting? Where, grave, thy victory?
I triumph still, if Thou abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

No Abiding City Here

We do not know, and can not tell
What path our feet may take;
We only know that all is well
When borne for Jesus’ sake.

We lay our life, our little all,
In His dear guiding hand,
And hasten to obey the call
We strive to understand.

A home, a harp, a robe and crown,
To faithful followers giv’n;
The trials, crosses, all laid down,
Then rest, sweet rest, in Heav’n.

We’ve no abiding city here;
We seek for one to come;
We strive to prove our title clear
To mansions fair, at home.

Whose walls are of jasper, whose streets are of gold;

Blessed homeland, dear homeland, sweet home of the soul.

Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule with justice.
A man will be as a hiding place from the wind, and a cover from the tempest,
As rivers of water in a dry place, as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.

Isaiah 32:1-2

You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.

Psalm 32:7

:poly:

The Hiding Place

Have you ever wished, deep down inside
That you could find a place to hide?
To hide from folks who come your way
With endless problems day by day?
To hide from all that lies ahead,
The unseen foes and griefs you dread?
To flee decisions you must make,
Avoid the path that you must take?
To run away and find a spot
Where even self can be forgot?

Earth has no place as such you seek
No place of refuge for the weak;
For ev'ry shelter here on earth
Soon proves to be of little worth
And we are left alone to face
The woes that plague the human race.

BUT WAIT!! The Rock of Ages He still stands,
A refuge from all life's demands;
A place to hide to weep to rest;
A place to hover and be blest.

For Jesus is that Rock Who stands
Holding forth His nail pierced hands
A covert from the storm is He,
Saying, “Come, and hide in Me.”

:poly:

For You have been…a refuge from the storm.
Isaiah 25:4

A Shelter in the Time of Storm

The Lord’s our Rock, in him we hide,
A shelter in the time of storm;
Secure whatever ill betide,
A shelter in the time of storm.
Oh, Jesus is a Rock in a weary land,
A weary land, a weary land...

Evening Praise the Lord

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
Matthew 8:26-27

Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me

Jesus, Savior, pilot me over life’s tempestuous sea;
Unknown waves before me roll, hiding rock and treacherous shoal.
Chart and compass come from Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

Though the sea be smooth and bright, sparkling with the stars of night,
And my ship’s path be ablaze with the light of halcyon days,
Still I know my need of Thee; Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When the darkling heavens frown, and the wrathful winds come down,
And the fierce waves, tossed on high, lash themselves against the sky,
Jesus, Savior, pilot me, over life’s tempestuous sea.

As a mother stills her child, Thou canst hush the ocean wild;
Boisterous waves obey Thy will, when Thou sayest to them, “Be still!”
Wondrous sovereign of the sea, Jesus, Savior, pilot me.

When at last I near the shore, and the fearful breakers roar
’Twixt me and the peaceful rest, then, while leaning on Thy breast,
May I hear Thee say to me, “Fear not, I will pilot thee.”

He stilled the storm to a whisper; the waves of the sea were hushed…and He guided them to their desired haven.
Psalm 107:29-30

Guide Us, Pilot, To The Harbor

Our frail bark is on the ocean,
By the tempest wildly tossed;
Savior, calm the troubled waters,
Ere we are forever lost.
Oh, the storm! the wild, dark storm!
See the lighthouse on the strand;
Guide us, Pilot, to the harbor,
Safe into Immanuel’s land.

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!

He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray.
Matthew 14:23

I Love to Steal Awhile Away

I love to steal awhile away
From every cumbering care,
And spend the hours of closing day
In humble, grateful, prayer.

I love in solitude to shed
The repentful tear,
And all His promises to plead
Where none but God can hear.

I love to think on mercies past,
And future good implore,
And all my cares and sorrows cast
On God, whom I adore.

I love by faith to take a view
Of brighter scenes in heaven;
The prospect doth my strength renew,
While here by tempests driven.

Thus, when life’s toilsome day is o’er,
May its departing ray,
Be calm at this impressive hour,
And lead to endless day.

It shall be well with you.
Psalm 128:2

Balm in Secret Prayer

Pray on, pray on, O trusting heart, let not thy courage fail;
But take thy Savior at His word, and know thou shalt prevail.
What tho’ thy prayers thro’ many tears may reach His throne on high;
He knows the anguish of thy heart, and will not pass thee by.
Tho’ the cross is hard to bear, there is balm in secret prayer;
Go and tell thy sorrows there, and leave it all with Jesus.

Evening Praise the Lord.

:BRAVO:

Praise the Lord!
But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. Matthew 6:6

The Simple, Earnest Prayer

In the twilight of the morning, when the shadows steal away,
And we wake from balmy slumber to behold another day,
Let us go alone in secret, and unburden all our care
At the feet of our Redeemer, in the simple, earnest prayer.

In the noontide, calm and peaceful, when we pause awhile to rest,
Ere the sun in all its glory is declining towards the west;
In the midst of our temptation, when the cross is hard to bear,
If we cannot go in secret, God will hear the silent prayer.

When the toils of day are over, and we seek the hallowed place
Where by faith we meet our Savior, and adore Him for His grace;
How we feel our burden lighter, till we loose our weight of care,
While we lift our hearts together in the simple, earnest prayer.

Let Thy presence, blessed Savior, our protection ever be;
Give us strength for every trial, keep, oh, keep us close to Thee.

The Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13

Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be Your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom
And the power and the glory forever.

Amen.
