Non Married Cohabitation Should Be Illegal

(Rules, Art Brain has so many rule when it comes to legislating laws. I wonder when he and Sandy are going to start their "totalitarian theocracy"?).

Nope, I'm happy enough with the 'rules' as they happen to stand. Racist segregation is no longer lawful as with homosexual persecution, women being denied equal status in society and children being abused through child labour etc. You're the one wanting to enforce his own particular brand of rules on folk doofus...

What, every state mandated policies whereby every non heterosexual married couples could be prone to prosecution due to aforementioned infraction of such?

Do you live on Mars or do you just dream about it?

You can always depend on liberals to call a certain past 'oppressive', even though a time before that was marked with liberals dreaming it up as liberty.

A totalitarian society enforces laws on the population and in your case a theocratic one would do the same. Sure, you can't force anybody to believe the same as you do, no society can control the inner beliefs of anyone but enacting laws that impinge upon people's personal freedom based on such is a totalitarian state. This is what you advocate. You may not be denying people the rights to be agnostics/atheists or whatever but you are for policing people's personal and private sexual lives because of your own 'morals'. It's not like it'll happen but why so shy about just admitting it?

There it is..... in a nutshell.
Sadly, most (extreme) Abrahamic religions seek to establish theocracies, and in a world where such a theocracxy had total power the list of capital offences would be huge. Personal freedoms would evaporate and the reign of terror would be firmly in place, as has happened so often before.

And Hypocrisy would become one of the greatest Evil-Arts (excuse the pun on your name..... no insinuation intended! :) ). We've seen it before. We'll see attempts to restore it all again.

We do have some extremist groups here, you know that, but I haven't bumped into such heated hatred against freedom-to-live-love-and-believe around here (kent) in yonks. Interestingly (for me) I have noticed that our youth are less heavily into extreme-feminism here, they just seem to accept equality of opportunity for all more easily, and maybe this is because at working class levels they are not so oppressed by this subjugation of women, love and freedom stuff.

At risk of offending you, the only 'thing' that seems to be holding back women here is at the higher earnings end of things, where wealthy young mid-class males are tucked into exec positions more easily through secret society membership. I don't know how we will ever sort that out.

Quite, simply typing out a post that criticized such would probably lead you to 'disappear'...

You're excused...:chuckle:

We do, the BNP & associated but in general things are the same where I live (up North). Aside from the occasional nut then people are generally not fanatics.

Eh, no offence taken. I suspect that type of thing will always go on but in general it's becoming less and less apparent I think.

Oh..... I hope not, more now than before....
I've come across this member who can translate Hebrew, Greek and possibly Aramaic, and who is giving me info on the disciples that I've never heard of before, and which looks possible. The member is a break-through for me.

If I get told-off I will go down on my knees, even.

The thing is, I cam't get Jesus out of my head. I have been a student and scholar of historic-Jesus for over 12 years now. I wander around the web, looking for 'even a sentence' that can give me new info. There is one who posys on the Religion forum.

I hope that I survive. :)

The penalty for those found guilty?

A public whipping and an enforced 12.5 hour duration of 'America's Got Talent' or the...'equivalent'.

Any naysayers?
Nay, except for maybe the "America's..."

It is better, however, to 1) control your passions and not let them over-ride sensibility nor responsibility 2) to love another more than yourself, thus not do this without careful planning nor based on one-dimensional hedonism (#1 again) 3) best to do things God's way

"The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4. And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? 6. Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
7. They say unto him, Why did Moses then command to give a writing of divorcement, and to put her away?
8. He saith unto them, Moses because of the hardness of your hearts suffered you to put away your wives: but from the beginning it was not so." Matthew 19: 3-8

The concern in Matthew 19: 3-8 is not with how a couple become married, but with their staying together once they are a couple. And the New Testament has a lot to say about adultery. Porneias, translated as fornication, is from porne, harlot.

"Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
16. What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
17. But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
18. Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that commiteth fornication sinneth against his own body.
19. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
20. For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. I Corinthians 6: 15-20

A couple who lives together without a marriage license and ceremony is not automatically guilty of sin for doing so. It depends on the two understanding that they are bonded together by the Lord, and on their faithfulness to one another.

I Corinthians 6; 15-20 is not a text which can be limited to avoiding having sex with a prostitute. Go back to Matthew 19: 5-6, "and they twain shall be one flesh...What therefore God hath joined together, let no man put asunder." God does not join a man to many women in sequence. He joins a man to one woman and they should stay joined and not become joined in the flesh to others of the opposite sex.

Yet in church history churches did not always prescribe that couples must go to the state and get a marriage license and then go through a specific kind of ceremony by a priest, preacher or judge in order to become married.

http://vigilance.teachthefacts.org/2007/11/why-does-government-regulate-marriage.html

"For 16 centuries, Christianity also defined the validity of a marriage on the basis of a couple’s wishes. If two people claimed they had exchanged marital vows — even out alone by the haystack — the Catholic Church accepted that they were validly married.

In 1215, the church decreed that a “licit” marriage must take place in church. But people who married illictly had the same rights and obligations as a couple married in church:"

"The American colonies officially required marriages to be registered, but until the mid-19th century, state supreme courts routinely ruled that public cohabitation was sufficient evidence of a valid marriage."

Again, the New Testament does not say how a couple becomes married; it does not say that a couple must go to the County Clerks's Office, buy a marriage license, and then go through a marriage ceremony conducted by a priest, preacher or judge. In Texas a Justice of the Peace can perform a marriage ceremony.

That Texas Justice of the Peace is authorized by the State of Texas to perform weddings by the way.

Government didn't get involved in the marriage business until people (on a large scale) began to abuse it. Marriage and hence the traditional family is the nucleus of society:

nucleus : 1.the central and most important part of an object, movement, or group, forming the basis for its activity and growth: (in other words, a society doesn't run well if the nucleus doesn't operate correctly).

A righteous government has a compelling interest in marriage and should do everything possible (laws, cultural mores') to promote traditional marriage and the family.

no such thing

not in america

Not anymore.

Prior to becoming 'civilized' there were laws against cohabitation, abortion, homosexuality, pornography, etc. No fault divorce was non-existent (meaning couples couldn't take the easy way out of a marriage). While our government has had it fair share of flaws, it was a righteous government for the most part when it came to legislating laws that promoted the nucleus of society (marriage and the traditional family).
