I am going with the Steelers

The Steelers didn't cover, but they won their 21st Division Title since the merger.

21 Division titles since the merger is more than any other team.

Most Division Titles since the merger:

21 - Steelers
20 - 49'ers
19 - Cowboys
18 - Patriots
17 - Vikings
15 - Colts
14 - Broncos

The AFC playoff picture still has a lot of possibilities.

The Steelers are the #3 seed and the Texans are the #4 seed no matter what.

The Patriots will be the #1 seed, but can be the #2 seed if they lose, and Oakland wins.

The Chiefs can be the #2 seed if they win, and Oakland loses, they can be the #5 seed if Oakland wins, or they can be the #6 seed if they lose and Miami wins.

The Raiders can be the #1 seed if they win and the Patriots lose, they can be the #2 seed with a win and a Patriots win, or they could be the #5 seed with a loss and a Chiefs win.

Derek Carr's broken leg changes the entire AFC playoffs. The Raiders are no longer a threat.

In the Super Bowl era the Cowboys have 23 division Titles, more than any team in the NFL.

Here is what is said about Dallas' division, the NFC East:

"The Dallas Cowboys, Washington, Redskins, New York Giants and Philadelphia Eagles blow the rest of the league away with an insane 12 Super Bowl victories and 20 appearances. In other words, an NFC East team has participated in 41 percent of all the Super Bowls ever held.

No other division has won more than eight or appeared in more than 18 Super Bowls. Only three other divisions have more than one team with multiple Super Bowl victories, while the NFC East has three teams that have won more than two.

At .530, the NFC East also has the highest all-time winning percentage among the eight divisions. The Super Bowl-less Eagles are clearly the dog of the division, but even they have an above-.500 all-time record and two Super Bowl appearances."

It has been a real struggle to win a divisional title in the NFC East due the fact that over the years it has been the best division in the NFL. And despite that the Cowboys have won two more Division titles than have the Steelers during the Super Bowl era!

We also must remember that the Steelers had a span of 38 years during which they did not even win one playoff game. When I started watching pro football the Steelers were the laughingstock of the NFL and they had been for decades!

So what about the Cowboys and that 7.5 line? Will they rest a bit, back off of the Lions and help the line stay closer? Will Detroit continue to struggle a little offensively? How's that finger coming along with Stafford? Will the potential division win raise the level of competition for the Lions?

I need to get this one right after going off model and losing two. Nine games feels shabby. This is the brass ring on ten for the week.

Thoughts on the likely outcome?

One encouraging sign for the Boys is the fact that their defense continues to improve. Now they are number one in the NFL for rushing defense with an average of 80.9 YPG given up. They are now number four in points allowed at 18.4 PPG. So if they can get their offense back on track they will be a very difficult team to beat no matter who they play.

Seven and a half is a lot of points but nonetheless I would go with the Cowboys since they have the home field advantage, and just lately it has actually been an advantage for the Boys to play at home.

Finally!

My model has the Boys most likely outcome at 24 - 17 over the Lions. I've been burned by going off that twice this week. Thanks. I'll ride this one out with Dallas.

You need to get your facts straight Jerry.

First off, in 1969 the Steelers were in the same division as the NY Giants, while the Cowboys were in the same division as the New Orleans Saints.

Same thing for 1967

In 1966, their were only two divisions, and the Cowboys and Steelers were in the same division, along with six other teams, and they didn't play any of the AFL teams.

So, when you say "Super Bowl era", it doesn't make much sense. Which is why "the merger" is the best starting point. Since the merger, no team has dominated like the Steelers have.

Also, since the last realignment in 2002, no division has as many playoff appearances and wins as the AFC North.

Maybe if your Cowboys would have won more than two playoff games the last 20 years, the NFC East would rank higher than it does.

Not to mention the Cowboys haven't come close to even appearing in a Super Bowl since 1996.

We got one more game to go against our rivals the saints. That is going to be a tough game. We need it to get that by for the first round.

The writer fails to mention the fact that the pathetic Cardinals played in the NFC East from 1970 to 2002. The pathetic Cardinals made the playoffs just four times during those 33 years, and only won one playoff game (AGAINST THE COWBOYS)...hahahaha

Why do you brag that the Steelers have won more Super Bowls during the Super Bowl era than any other team? So it's OK for you to employ that distinction but not for me?

Maybe if the Steelers would have won some playoff games during a span of 38 years they would be ahead of the Boys in the category of playoff wins overall! Instead, over that period of time they won NONE, ZERO, ZILCH!

That is one playoff record which will never be beat. I bet that you are proud of that record, aren't you?

I don't. I always say "the merger"

The Steelers have won more Super Bowls since the merger than any other team.

So it's OK for you to employ that distinction but not for me?

See above, however, even if you use "super bowl era", the Steelers still have won more Super Bowls than any other team.

Which is why "the merger" is the best starting point.

"The NFC East teams have combined to be the most successful division in the NFL since the 1970 NFL merger with 20 NFC Championship wins and 12 Super Bowl victories, the highest marks of any division in the NFL. Each of the current NFC East's four teams has won at least three NFL titles during their existence; however, only Philadelphia has yet to win a championship in the Super Bowl era. The division features a number of prominent rivalries such as the Cowboys–Redskins rivalry and Eagles–Giants rivalry. Because the division's teams are in some of the United States' largest media markets (New York No. 1, Philadelphia, No. 4, Dallas-Fort Worth No. 5, and Washington No. 8), the NFC East receives a high amount of coverage from national sports media outlets.[1] In the early 1990s the division claimed four consecutive Super Bowl champions, as the Cowboys won two and the Giants and Redskins took one each, all against the Buffalo Bills. Those same three teams won seven out of ten Super Bowls, from 1986-87 to 1995-96."

Yes, but they are not in the same division!

Two teams winning 7 of 10 Super Bowls is much more impressive than 3 teams doing it.

Not matter how hard you try Jerry, your Cowboys are the second best team since the merger. The Steelers own every statistic since the merger.

Had your Cowboys won more than 2 playoff games the last 20 years, things would be different. However, because the Cowboys have sucked so bad the last 20 years, the Steelers are the best team.

Not to mention the fact that the Steelers beat the Cowboys in 2 out of 3 Super Bowls.

You are missing the point! Those two teams of which you speak are not from the same division, as are the three teams from the NFC East which won seven Super Bowls in ten years.

Not matter how hard you try Jerry, your Cowboys are the second best team since the merger. The Steelers own every statistic since the merger.p

The only way to compare the success of the two teams is to examine their records from their inception! But of course you want no part of that because for 38 years the Steelers did not even win one playoff game.

Let's examine the two teams' winning percentage over the time of their existence, OK? Let's examine how many playoff wins each team won and see how that averages out per year during the time of the existence of each team,OK? Then let us look at the same in regard to the number of NFL titles, OK?

It is only in that way can we really see the real success which each team has enjoyed in the NFL!

Of course, as usual, you will prefer to cling to your fantasy at the expense of reality!

No matter how hard you try Jerry, no team has dominated the NFL like the Steelers since the merger, which includes their two Super Bowl wins over the Cowboys.

You should be excited Jerry, your Cowboys made the playoffs this year.

Now, all they have to do is win two playoff games to reach the Super Bowl. I know that's hard for you to imagine considering the Cowboys have only won two playoff games the past 20 years, but who knows.....maybe they can do it this year.

There you go again!

Why don't you want to compare the records of both teams since their inception?

Obviously you know that if we compare them that way then the Boys will clearly SLAUGHTER the Steelers.

You would rather live in your little fantasy world and just pretend that the Steelers have been a more successful team that the Boys!!!

The Dallas' defense was ineffective for the Lion's first three possessions but after that the defense shut them down, not allowing them to score again the rest of the game. The Dallas offense was once again back on track, scoring 42 points, a season high.

Prescott had another good night, throwing for three touchdowns. He also completed 75% of his passes and he had a 148.3 QB rating, which extended his NFL rookie record of 100+ passer rating games to 11 games. Also, his 13th win ties Big Ben's record for rookie QB wins and if he wins next week he will break Big Ben's record for most wins in the regular season by a rookie..

They Boys hardly looked in decline, especially since the Lions were highly motivated because a win would put them in the playoffs. On the other hand, the Boys had nothing to gain by winning!
