Ah, I can see it. Especially elements of the Professional in the personal end of it and Transporter in the pacing.

If they'd given a clearer picture of the humor and back story and left the vixen out in the ads I might have gone to see it at the theater. I wonder how many movies have been killed by poor ad campaigns.

hehe! I know!

I was laughing when he had the accountant (an Italian) tied up in the bathroom and was interrogating him. His daughter calls during the interrogation wanting to know if he has any spaghetti sauce recipes because she was going to cook dinner for her boyfriend and wanted to impress him.
He looks down at the Italian and tells his daughter to hold on. Then he makes the Italian call his mother in Italy for her sauce recipe before he continues the interrogation!!!!

Cracked me up!

the part Tambora described or the guy in the trunk
would have been good teasers

and Edward Norton from the movie the score (liked that movie)
would have been a better handler

Beyond the Reach

Starring Michael Douglas, a billionaire that wants a private hunting exposition in the Mojave Desert.
He hires a young tracker (played by Jeremy Irvine).

Things take a turn when the billionaire sees something move on a ridge and shoots it.
It turns out to be an old man.

The young tracker wants to call the police. But the billionaire just can't have his reputation ruined.
Rather than outright kill him, he makes the young tracker strip down to nothing but his briefs. No weapon, no water, not food, and no protection from the blaring sun in the day & freezing temps at night.

He just follows and watches from a distance to see how long it will take for the young man to die.
But this young man is smart and resourceful.

It's a cat and mouse game to the end!

While a pretty good film, and worth the watch; there really wasn't much too memorable about it (in my opinion).

I think that's right. One for the action/heart tug narrative and a couple showing the humor mixed in and it's a very different draw.

Easily. The model angle was a distraction and about as believable as what's her face (Charlie Sheen's ex) as a physicist in one of the Bond movies. If you want a woman in the role pick someone with gravitas or, better yet, skip the wasted sexual element and go with a guy, like Norton or an older guy, like De Niro.

And I remember the line from the trailer I saw had model/agent saying something old and tired like, "You're the only one who can get X" (the name of the villain that I can't recall at the moment).

That's a hack of a bit of dialogue and without backstory (he's the only one because only he knows what the guy looks like) it isn't any more believable than a model/agent, because a guy who looks to be easily at the end of his career would not be the only man in general, the only thing we can work with not knowing the backstory. So the snippet had me rolling my eyes on two fronts.

Horrible job selling the movie.

Oh, and speaking of De Niro, have you heard this:

I'm going to do an impression of Robert De Niro's agent.

Ring-ring.

"He'll do it!"

Did you ever see Frank caliendos impression of de niro as Frankenstein? De niro played him at some point but caliendos impression is so funny.

Oldboy

A movie from 2013 Starring Josh Brolin.

Hmmm. I'm not really sure what to say about this movie.

I had never even heard of this movie before, and we had no idea what it was about. We thought it was going to be an action film. But it turned out to be a psychological mind bender.

On the surface, it is a story of revenge. It has action scenes, love scenes, fight scenes, etc.
And you watch right along as the mystery unveils piece by piece as to why this revenge is taking place and who is behind it.

In other words, it will hold your interest. And to me, the acting of Josh Brolin was excellent.

OK, so here's the story-line (briefly):
A man is drugged. Wakes up in in a room that looks like a hotel room, with a bed, TV, dresser, table, bathroom, etc., but with no widows and no door knob on the door.
He can't get out.
He is captive for 20 years, and doesn't know why or who did it.
Someone slides his meals on a tray through a narrow slot at the bottom of the door, but never says a word.
The only human he sees or hears is from watching TV.

He does break out, and starts trying to figure out who is behind this for revenge. And thus the mystery starts to unfold little by little.

BUT .... here's the deal, folks ....
You're watching as it unfolds, and you are thinking "OK. Yeah. You go get him."
Even at the end when you learn who was behind his captive life and all the reasoning behind the captor doing what he did, you are still thinking "Well, OK, that's sad and wrong, but yeah I get it".

But THEN you learn the final piece of the puzzle, and your stomach will churn and your skin will crawl and your spine will clinch up and tingle. And you will be thinking "I could have gone all day without learning that".
And you relive the whole movie again, wondering "Who do you blame? Who was the most wrong?"

I can see how folks could debate the moral issues of this movie till the cows come home.

My recommendation .....
For the majority of folks, I would say don't watch it because of the ending. The ending is very very very dark.
It's not a family movie. It's not a date movie. It's not a chick flick, or a manly movie.
I'm not sure what genre of folks this movie actually would appeal to (not sure I want to know either).

 I should make him the next actor in my American Film Icons thread.

He's one of the rare ones...though I wish he wouldn't do everything he's offered.
He's just kicking back and enjoying old age.
He's already proven himself as one of the best actors ever.

Okay, he was great in Silver Linings...

No argument. In my old movie game a genuine movie star needs three big films and an all time great has more. Godfather II, Raging Bull, Once Upon a Time in America, Taxi Driver and you're already in rare air before you get to Midnight Run, Goodfellas, King of Comedy, Deer Hunter or The Mission.
