Grotesque. A fine gentleman...and a traitor. He's fortunate not to have been shot or hanged.

Lee betrayed no one. If you knew history well, you would see that.

One may argue, Lee and Virgina were betrayed.

He sold out his country and committed high treason. There is nothing romantic about him, or what he fought for.

I made it all the way through this thread thinking James Earl Ray, and that something was seriously wrong here.

Whew.

wrong! I think you should drop it and go read about American history.

Ah, the old "please shut up" defense.

He was a traitor, plain and simple. Honoring him or his cause is grotesque. That, and also very predictable, all things considered.

Robert E. Lee did not own slaves, but many Union generals did.

Granite praises Union Genearls...:mock: Granite

"There are few, I believe, in this enlightened age,
who will not acknowledge that slavery as an institution is a moral
and political evil."

Which is a swell sentiment. Doesn't change the fact that he fought for a despicable cause.
