The fact is this. John Wayne was NOT a cowboy. He was NOT a war hero. He was not a morally upright manly man. He was an actor that played those things in movies. People that idolize John Wayne are diluted.

I like John Wayne. But, I realize that he was an actor. He's not my favorite actor, although one of his movies is a favorite of mine. But, since I wasn't that old when he died, I didn't hold him to a high standard based on the roles I saw him in.
