I have not read "50 Shades of Gray"...

Scientology is an interesting case study on what people will believe. :plain:

I don't think I could even name 20 religions in America. :liberals:

Hrm. What's my handicap? Do I get to categorize each psuedo-Christian cult as its own religion? Because that'll put me over in no time.

Off the top of my head. . .

Christianity
Judaism
Islam
Santeria
Vodou
Buddhism
Shintoism
Confucianism
Taoism
Hinduism
Animism
Odin (and assorted Norse gods) worship
Zeus/Jupiter (and assorted Greek/Roman gods) worship
Scientology
Satanism
Baal worship
Dagon worship
NFL fandom
Church of Elvis
Rastafarianism
Pastafarianism

I read Poland, it was pretty good.

Edward Rutherford's novels better so far. He does the same thing as Michener. Which Vidal?

Posted from the TOL App!

Another good author is Mika Waltari.
Re Gore Vidal:
"The Golden Age; Palimpset; Burr; Lincoln; 1876; Empire" etc.

:first: Good job!

Santeria just makes me think of the Sublime song. :tunes:

I'll let you slide on that NFL Fandom.

50 Shades? Well, when the kids call it porn, ya gotta figure it's pretty bad.

I'm not opposed to a well written romance novel from time to time for a late night read but there's plenty of good literature out there to absorb.

and I'm not going to!
My wife read part of it to see what the fuss was about. She put it down and laughed. Said it was poorly written and a bit juvenile in perspective.

She's not recommending it to either of her book clubs.

I will say this about it. There is an underlying theme about the power of love to change people but I think the author was trying to butter her bread on both sides; provide a solid theme while appealing to the secret sexual desires of the masses. It worked, she's rich, but at what cost?

I think the author is a pervert and wanted to share their perversion with the world. Nothing new to see there.
