lain: I hear variations of your statement all the time. There is no such thing really as a "different kind of war". Sure, the weapons change, and the powers involved certainly do both forcing elaborations on the basic situations but warfare and tactics remain basically the same. If this were not the case generals would not study the tactics of those who came before them.
:doh: Ughh...This one too. One of the basic concepts is asymmetrical warfare. It's what has been used against us in all of our little excursions overseas, it's what the Russians had to deal with in Afghanistan, what we had to deal with in Vietnam. It's what enabled the colonists during the American Revolution to successfully pursue a campaign of attrition which eventually delivered independence.
