He was slain from the foundation !
He was slain from the foundation !
Rev 13:8
8 And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of
the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
This means that He was slain in the Purpose of God before the foundation of the World, because of Peters words here 1 Pet 1:19-20
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:
20
Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times
for you [The Elect 1 Pet 1:1-2,
And yes both Peter and John are referring to the same Lamb [see Jn 1:29], but Peter makes it clear that He was foreordained
before the foundation of the World !
This confirms that this World was Created for a Redemptive Purpose !
The word slain in Rev 13:8 is the greek word sphazó and means :
to slay, slaughter
I slay, kill by violence, slaughter, wound mortally.
Also the word is in the perfect tense, a perfect passive participle, in the greek the Perfect is defined
The basic thought of the perfect tense is that the progress of an action has been completed and the results of the action are continuing on, in full effect. In other words, the progress of the action has reached its culmination and the finished results are now in existence. Unlike the English perfect, which indicates a completed past action, the Greek perfect tense indicates the continuation and present state of a completed past action.
Now the lamb was actually offered or slain in time, but in God's Purpose it was before Time, but He was ordained and appointed before time, and not only that, the producing effects [of His Death] comprehended from everlasting to everlasting, its efficaciousness secured Redemption for all the generations of Children of God, the Children of Abraham, the Heirs of Promise, all for whom He died both Pre and Post Cross, Yes the Old Testament Saints were redeemed and forgiven by the same blood as those under the New Covenant administration Rom 3:24-25
24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood[His Obedience Rom 5:19], to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;
For it was by His Offering through the Eternal Spirit, that He Perfected forever them that are sanctified [limited atonement statement] Heb 10:14
14 For by one offering
he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.
Meaning if His death did do this for you, then it was not for you ! It was only for those that it did Perfect forever !
Now it was the virtue of His Offering that He sanctified Jeremiah as here Jer 1:5
5 Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and
before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.
And so He was the Lamb slain from the foundation of the World ; Being the same in His Redemptive Character, Yesterday, Today, and Forever Heb 13:8; For He is the same Redeemer that Redeemed Job, that Redeemed Peter and Paul Job 19:25
For I know that
my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth:
Job is speaking of the Lord Jesus Christ and His Blood, 20 Who verily
was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you,
