Matter vs. form. I'm inclined to think that the matter is probably ok in the vast majority of cases, even in cases of divorce, but the form is all wrong (i.e., immaturity, a failure to understand what marriage is, a failure to work through problems and commit, etc).
if this were not so.. how to explain the divorce rate?

Well, isn't that what Paul instructed the churches to do? I don't believe turning a blind eye has proven healthy for the Body.

Does your church take 501C exemption? My point being that the Body isn't healthy because too many sins within it are being overlooked. But what can one expect when churches are teaching that continued sin is of no import?
