I have no problem with the gov' helping

You should, because 1) it's not their responsibility, and 2) they are stealing in order to accomplish it.

the poor and needy.
The cripple and the homeless.

Far more effective help can be obtained from family, friends, neighbors, nearby churches, and local organizations.

The unemployed

The best way for the unemployed to get help is to get a job. Not to seek assistance from the government.

and the unemployable.

Same as above. Family, friends, neighbors, nearby churches, and local organizations.

No need for the government to get involved.

My tax dollars go for that very purpose.

See the video above.

The government does NOT have the right to use tax money for that purpose.

I don't recall ever telling you to "have power over the gov' can do".

You apparently think we have some power over the government, or else you wouldn't tell us to...

Talk to your representative and congress man.

As if that will do... something.

I am thankful for their helping others.

You're thankful that the government is stealing from hard working people in order to take a cut for themselves, and then redistribute it to those who have not earned it.

I don't think you are.

No, I am not thankful that the government is stealing from me and everyone else so that it could fund its socialist programs.

I have never advocated theft.

Simply advocating for socialist programs IS advocating for theft.

You perceive taxes as theft, but I do not.

MOST forms of taxation are theft.

You think helping others is wrong.

No, I don't, you liar, bearer of false witness!

Quit with your false accusations! Final warning!

If the needs of the one can be met by the largess of the other, I am glad.

Such needs can be met without government intervention.

Only in your mind.

Wrong. You are, in fact, advocating theft.

Only in your mind.

Supra.

I have long ago forgiven you and have no need to revisit it.

You can't forgive me for something I never did, you troll.

Either support your accusations, or stop making them.

Two topics there.
My advocating for the continued gov' help for the needy and that it is theft.

The government helping the needy is theft.

You advocating for it is sin, because of the fact that theft is a sin, and advocation of a sin is also a sin.

I will continue to thank God for the help this gov' supplies,

In other words, you will continue to thank God for wickedness!

by the grace of God.

Do not blaspheme God! God has nothing to do with the government's so-called "charity."

And I don't see taxation as theft.

Too bad.

I understand what you are saying, but I don't agree with your POV.

It's not me that you're disagreeing with, Hoping. It's God you're disagreeing with! That makes you WRONG!

As a Christian, I believe God's promise to never abandon us,

Irrelevant to the discussion.

so have no worries about giving of my abundance to help others.

There is no reason for the government to be involved in such actions.

Everything I do here is wasted, particularly that which has anything to do with you. Fortunately, you aren't the reason I do it.

Don't ever claim to do anything based on biblical thinking in my presence. You're a liar and a religious hack who's every theological distinctive is based on flat out ignorance, overtly false doctrine, legalism and self-aggrandizement. Politically, you've joined forces with the enemy and don't seem to care who you hurt in the process - never mind what damage is done to the Christian faith and to God's own reputation!
Doctrinally, you seem to know next to nothing at all about the most fundamental moral foundations of the Christian faith. You believe a combination of what you've been taught to believe and that which you desire to believe and couldn't care less when that belief directly contradicts the most plainly stated scriptures that any twelve year old child could read and understand.
I've got news for you, Hoping. Despite what every pagan religion in the world teaches you, blind belief isn't the same thing as faith! If you're saved at all, it'll be by the scorched skin of your teeth. (I Cor. 3:15)

Does anyone have a resolution to the border problems?
It seems that there are several different problems, which need separate answers.

Not true, sir! I find your input extremely useful!
Of course! My comment was based on his premise. He seems to think that I believe there's some possibility that I'm going to convince him to change his mind and am therefore spending my time and effort with that goal in mind. If that's what I was doing, then practically every syllable I type here on TOL would be a waste of time. Not that I wouldn't be elated for someone to actually allow their mind to persuade their heart away from false doctrine, I totally would be completely ecstatic if any such thing happened but I also think it would be cool for a meteorite to land in my back yard. Not exactly something I expect to happen!

I stick around here because I know that there are like minded people here who know how to think and how to clearly articulate doctrines that actually make sense and that are consistent with the existence of a God Who is actually and meaningfully living, personal, kind, loving, righteous, just, merciful, etc. It keeps me connected to these people and reminds me that I'm not the only one around. Definitely NOT a waste of time, no matter how brainless the particular dullard is that I'm interacting with directly.

What is the reason you are here?
There are several reasons. The only one that pertains to you is the fact that practice, even practice against morons, helps keep these issues fresh in my mind. If I had people of reason and of sound mind to debate with, like used to be here on TOL, then I'd debate them exclusively and completely ignore heretical morons such as yourself. That, however is not an option, so I settle for the likes of you for as long as I can stand it and then I place you on ignore for a while until the rotten egg taste is no longer in the back of my throat.

It seems that there are several different problems, which need separate answers.

Here is one that doesn't violate God's laws:

Here's a just immigration policy:
- end welfare state (no more socialist programs)
- replace criminal justice system (the current one is beyond repair)
- repair border
- love your neighbor, stranger, foreigner, etc; invite them into your land.

1. A wall
2. Catch and release back over the border.

With the exception of criminals who have committed a capital crime being put to death, and NOT being released back across the border.

How is that an answer to the deeper questions?
Tens of thousands seek to live here, work here, raise families here.
Keeping them out or catching and retuning them solves nothing.
Why not let them work so they can pay the taxes that will enable the nation to cope with them?

That is sensible.
I find the practice I get here trains me for face-to-face meetings with folks on the street.

Thanks for the suggestions...(which didn't show up in my post).

OK.
Not may states still have a death penalty though.
Most would just spend time in underfunded, understaffed, prisons.

Part of the "replace criminal justice system" would be reinstating the death penalty for capital crimes.

That is the ideal method, for us, for sure.
That is the ideal method for every other country in the world and used to be the model for ours.
But some of theses folks are running away from gangs and dire poverty.
The world is full of dangerous situations and dire poverty that people would prefer to run away from rather than fix.
The bad precedent set by former and present admin's has led them to believe that crossing in person is better than waiting for "the paper work".
Which is why we should return them across the border.
What can be done with the situation now present?
Build the wall.
Catch and release across the border.

Do you feel that fits a Christian's dynamic of loving your neighbor as you love yourself,

Yes.

It is very loving to the victim of a capital crime (and his family and loved ones) to put such a criminal to death, for they are my neighbors too.

It's also loving to the criminal himself to put him to death. When faced with their own mortality, 50% of people will turn to Christ for salvation, and the other 50% will reject Him.

Not putting such a criminal to death is harmful to the criminal, to the victim (and/or his family and loved ones), and to society as a whole.

and thou shalt not kill?

kill =/= murder

God never said "you shall not kill."

He said "you shall not murder."

It's a completely different word in the Hebrew text.

Otherwise, He would have been contradicting Himself when He said "put the murderer to death."

Or are you just citing what the fleshly world would do, knowing they are not Christians?

The death penalty is at the heart of the gospel.
