Another Lie from Trump: Bringing Jobs Back

The manufacturing jobs there were around aren't here anymore because they have been taken over by technology/automation, thus, it is cheaper. What about this doesn't make sense to you?

That is absolutely false Q, those jobs moved because the large corporations want cheap labor to make them. If you are old enough you will remember it was Japan that was doing the same thing as China is doing to us right now in the 80's. China had no industrial base nor automation, these are American technologies which were exported to increase profit but, it also has destroyed American jobs in the process. The trade between the U.S. & countries like China are anything but free trade and if the playing field is leveled that work might not be so cheap. Have you ever pondered why wall street is doing so well yet our economy still sucks? or why? I don't begrudge any business man from making a profit, I do however begrudge them selling out this country to do it.

You're right, they were originally moved over because of that. Now, however, whatever is left is mostly automated.

Does 230,000 jobs in one factory in China manufacturing iPhones sound automated to you? Certainly there are parts of the process that get automated but, if there are 230,000 workers, there are manufacturing, assembly, & test positions that an American company can give American workers, which would feed our economy & our tax revenue base instead of feeding China. That is just one factory making one product Q, there are many more like it, and I can assure you there was an American doing that job before the pseudo American company paid off some politician to offshore that work for a bigger profit margin. Like I said, I don't begrudge any business man from making profit, I do however hold a big grudge against businessmen who have sold out this country for a buck, which includes profiteering politicians like the Clintons & Bush's have done.

Two things, first, you know Trump has exported his manufacturing overseas, right? Second, do you honestly believe it's that easy to move it back? Let's assume that Trump somehow forces that iphone factory back over here. Do you really think Apple is going to hire 230,000 people to work in it? Nope. They are going to modernize and streamline everything they can to save costs. They might hire 2500. I mean granted, it's 2500 more than what we had. Next, somehow they have to recoup those costs. You think inflation is bad NOW? Imagine if every single product that was made overseas now had to make up that loss in modernization and increased overhead.

Shipping jobs overseas sucks. It does. But let's be realistic. Trump is not capable of bringing them back even if he was elected tomorrow. Further, he wouldn't do it even if he could, it would go against his own financial interests.

When were Apple products made in the USA? Answer: never. So those jobs will never come back here because they never were here.

Furthermore, most Apple manufacturing workers live in dorms near the factory. Imagine 200,000 people in the US coming and going to a couple of acres every day. Not happening and US workers won't live "on campus".

Also, there are not enough skilled engineers in one city in the US to make a factory with 230,000 workers viable.

If the following line from the article is true...
"He thinks he can bring back American jobs from China and Mexico. He can't, because those jobs have disappeared."
... then the title of the article is a lie. If he thinks he can do it, he might be wrong but he isn't lying!
Well said.

But I think that anyone who can make 10 billion dollars
can also create lots of jobs if he so wishes.

Unless I am missing aren't Trump's main businesses in real estate, hospitality, and entertainment? These are not the kind of businesses one can ship overseas I would think. What manufacturing jobs did Trump send overseas? He got his start in New York City real estate. He's built some casinos as well.

Sadly this point above I agree with but, you are wrong to say that apple products were never built in the U.S. because some are manufactured here right now, and as far as herding folks to live in a campus, well you are correct that only when you employ the impoverished can you enjoy the perk of running the company store.

Ummm...this is not true.

Why Aren’t Apple Products Made in America?

As recently as 2002, most of Apple’s products were manufactured in the USA. What happened? Why is nearly everything, from Macs to iPhones, made in China now? The New York Times provides an in depth report on Apple’s move overseas, and it’s not as simple as you might think.

It isn’t just that workers are cheaper abroad. Rather, Apple’s executives believe the vast scale of overseas factories as well as the flexibility, diligence and industrial skills of foreign workers have so outpaced their American counterparts that “Made in the U.S.A.” is no longer a viable option for most Apple products.

First I am not positing bringing back every job that has been shipped to China, Mexico, etc., I am however in agreement with Trump that this entire notion of "free Trade" as it exists now get scrapped because it is a sham, it is anything but free or fair. I also would like to see companies that outsource jobs overseas be financially penalized for it, or let them move their business to China, Mexico, Bangladesh, or wherever.

Explain in your own words, not the tripe fed to you by the Washington Compost why the off shored jobs cannot be brought back to the U.S., do you believe everything the media (owned by the corporatists) and your RINO/left wing politicians (also bought & paid for by the corporatists) tell you? :nono:

Donald Trump is nothing more than another mogul who thrives on power and worships the mighty £/$.

I watched an acclaimed documentary aired in 2011 about his building a golf course in Aberdeenshire, Scotland and it was disgusting. Under the pretense of it providing thousands of jobs and aiding the environment it did neither and ran roughshod over residents of the land in the process, on 'conserved' land just so he could swing around a bloody 5 iron and make big bucks.

The documentary is called "You've Been Trumped":

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1943873/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

I can't link to the whole film on Youtube due to copyright but here's a small taste, and if you've seen the whole thing there's no way you could come out of it with any respect for the man unless you were very easily duped. Anyone who think he's the answer to America's problems is as gullible as it gets.

You're right, of course. 2002 was about the time the first iPod came out. While it seems like it's been a long time the iPhone came out just 8 years ago, the iPad only 5 years ago. When I think of Apple products I don't think of desktop computers. My point is most of Apple’s biggest selling products were never made in the US.

He has manufacturing for his clothing lines overseas.

I do not believe that he is that ignorant. I believe he is saying what people want to hear to get votes at the expense of blue collar workers who are struggling.

And he'll bring them back here once he gets rid of the minimum wage and American workers become desperate enough to work 100 hours a week foregoing any chance of actual family time for about 2 dollars a week. He's very pro family.

Welcome to the republican jobs plan.

I'm just pointing out that the author of the article was talking out of both sides of his mouth, just a bit. I'm not even saying that I think Trump would be a good president. I do, however, think he would not be any worse than Jeb or Hillary I also love the idea of seriously shaking up the two party system. A Trump presidency would do that in spades!

At what expense? Do you really trust a guy who can't even give a speech about immigration without insulting an entire voting base to maintain delicate, international agreements and relationships?
