In the Old Testament, God did NOT (not that he ever does) mess around.

If you committed some wrong against him, you were TOAST

Uzzah... all he did was try to reach out and steady the ARK of the Covenant... and he got zapped immediately b/c only the Levite priests were allowed to touch the Ark...

sounds like God was really scrupulous about The Law...

so anyway, then there were the wars the Israelites were involved in, in which God told them to kill EVERYONE, even children... sounds SOOOO so bad... until you realize that.. well, the Old T is either the Word of God or it isn't..

Sorry, you anti-military, anti-(all) violence folks...

It's not possible... You just cannot be holier than God...

And your point is?
QFT.

P.S.: And these barbaric acts attributed to God truly fit your view of the God Christ commanded us to love and which the Gospel writers claim loves the world?

P.P.S.: Why is this explicitly religious thread in the Politics section, not in the Religion section?

I would respond if I could just figure out what responders are saying

but you know, that often happens when a person doesn't have anything to say, really... they just... well, saying any old thing... and hope it sounds like a response.. or um.. something

Yes

Philip Kapusta writes in Blood Guilt: Christian Responses to America’s War on Terror (New Covenant Press, 2011):

In fighting against these nations, the armies of Israel acted as God’s agents of wrath and were used to execute His judgments. The wars of Israel were always to be at God’s command, subject to His laws, and for the occupation and the defense of the Land of Promise. The children of Israel could only kill when killing in the name of God – that is, when killing in obedience to a direct mandate from God.
