Some, such as the "Church of Christ" and other's, believe that the
"Body of Christ" began at "Acts 2:38." That is not the truth!
It did begin in Acts ch 2 when the 120 were filled with the Spirit of the new covenant, (the promise of the Father)and were the first members of the NT Temple (living temple)
Joh 14:16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
Joh 14:17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.
Joh 14:18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
Joh 14:19 Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.
Joh 14:20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
Joh 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him.
Peter
was proclaiming an "Indictment" against the Jews during that period
of time.
No scriptures say that. Steven delivered the last sermon to the rulers of the Jews on behalf of the Father and they killed Steven.
That sealed the future of Jerusalem culminating in its destruction by the Romans. (Mat.ch 23)
Acts 2:38 has nothing to do with the Body of Christ, which
didn't have its beginnings until, The Risen Christ met Paul on the 'Road to Damascus!'
There are no verses in the Bible saying such a thing and even Paul entered the new covenant Temple the same way as the 3000 of acts ch 2--
Act 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
Today, water baptism, good works/deeds and so called
obedience to the Law do not play apart in anyone's salvation/eternal life!
Jesus was a minister of the new covenant and
not a teacher of the law of the old covenant.
Jesus referred to the law on may occasions because the law prefigured the higher law of the Spirit of the new covenant.
Jesus ministered to His apostles and other disciples over a period of 40 days after His resurrection. He did not minister the law to His apostles and they did not minister the law to the Jews in Acts ch 2 or any other time.
So Peter did not preach the law in Acts 2:38 though it is prefigured in the OT law but is
not the baptism of John (coming out of Egypt under Moses, but the crossing of Jordan under the Angel of the Lord and Joshua).
That is the why of acts ch 19--
Act 19:1 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
Act 19:2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
Act 19:3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
Act 19:4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
Act 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
It's by the "Grace of God" (unmerited) and requires ONLY our faith in
Christ as our Lord and Savior!
That is incorrect.
Faith in Christ always requires obedience of some kind just as God said He then knew Abraham would obey God after he did not withhold his son Isaac from Him.
This is explained in the book of James--
Jas 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well:
the devils also believe, and tremble.
Jas 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
Jas 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
Jas 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
Jas 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.
Jas 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
Jas 2:25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
The "Unsaved" will be judged by their
works! Those in the 'Body of Christ' will receive NO judgment!
Paul said all believers have to stand in the judgment--
Rom 14:10 But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
Rom 14:11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
Rom 14:12
So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.
Rom 14:13
Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way.
also--
2Co 5:9 Wherefore we
labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
2Co 5:10 For
we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.
2Co 5:11 Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences.
also--
Mat 25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
Mat 25:33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
Mat 25:34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
Mat 25:35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Mat 25:36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Mat 25:37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
Mat 25:38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Mat 25:39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
Mat 25:40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
Mat 25:41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
Also--
Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
also--
Rev 3:5 He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels.
You misunderstand John ch 5.
Joh 5:28 Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,
Joh 5:29 And shall come forth;
they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life;
and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.
Rev 22:11 He that is unjust, let him be unjust still: and he which is filthy, let him be filthy still: and he that is righteous, let him be righteous still: and he that is holy, let him be holy still.
Rev 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man
according as his work shall be.
