I never got in to Slayer. I tried, I can't remember what it was that turned me off, but the equation of pros and cons just didn't favor Slayer. They're in good company, I couldn't get in to Megadeth either, or Iron Maiden. The equation just didn't work out, for me, for them.

There is a lot of aural good in Megadeth, Iron Maiden and Slayer, but there just isn't enough for me, to counteract the challenges these bands impose on me as a listener as well. What's the expression; the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

It's good music to listen to if you want to race yourself 100mph down some back country road at night and drive yourself a cliff. That's about it.

You could try opera. Dovlet is pretty good but I'm not sure how often he's in the US. Meet him just by chance years ago. Still gives me a call about once or twice a year when he's in town. Always brings some nice whiskey from whatever country he was in last and usually a bit of homemade brandy to go along with it.

They don't use any microphones when they sing. It's really amazing how their voices are trained to carry so far without them. I can't even hear my wife talking to me from the next room.
