Exactly right, it is not as if you can opt out on this giant ponzy scheme but, you can rest assured that if it still exists when I am of age I will darn sure collect what they "OWE" me, and yes this is an owed debt from where I am standing. The average citizen pays about $722,000 into SS & medicare, can you imagine what that number would look like if you invested that much over a lifetime into a secure low risk/low yield fund? Compound interest is a beautiful thing, and yes, you would be very comfortable in retirement.

Well, no they aren't, the ones that are actually "living" on the streets anyway. A lot of them have fallen through the 'safety net' due to flaws in the system that would otherwise afford them the benefits to be able to find accommodation as well as something to live on.
