He might be sure of that, but then he's sure that the Earth isn't warming up, too.

In fact, the statement is attributed to Dan Quayle, who maybe didn't say it, either. Some morons just took the story and changed the name.

Stripe does another one:
People do have an effect on the climate, but it is almost certainly completely negligible

Turns out, it's more than enough to override natural cooling cycles like the current sunspot minimum. That cools the Earth, but last year was a record warm year. Natural cycles are still working, but they've been swamped by man-made warming.

What is interesting is that global warming is great evidence for an ancient global catastrophe. In order to have all this ice to melt, it had to freeze from water onto the continents. In order to get onto the continents it had to evaporate at vastly increased rates. That means the oceans had to be warmer. But at the same time the continents had to be colder than they are today.

That's a testable assertion. The oceans are warmer now. And evaporation is much greater. But continents are also warmer. In spite of that, the ice is accumulating at the poles. So long as the average temp at the poles is less than 0 degrees C, increased humidity means more snow at the poles, and more ice. So much for that one.

The only way to achieve this setup is to raise the level of the continents because there is no way that only the oceans could be warmed.

They are measurably warmer now, and other than the usual tectonic processes, nothing is being raised. And some stuff is being lowered.

All that's left is to figure out how long gravity would take to reverse such an anomaly - and as luck would have it we can measure earthquakes today that are a continuation of that settling.

Nice try. Earthquakes are driven by tectonic processes (we can directly observe them at mid-oceanic ridges).

You mean Arctic and Antarctic ice is increasing??!!

News to all of us, I'm sure. :chuckle:

Anyway - you're right that as long as the temperature is below 0 water will freeze. But we're not talking about ice solely at the poles. We're talking about glaciers and ice sheets that once existed on every continent.

The only way to add ice to a location is to have the location at below freezing. The only way to achieve that in all the places we have had ice is to raise the land (remembering you have to keep the oceans warm).

nothing is being raised. And some stuff is being lowered.
Are you trying to disagree with me? :chuckle:

Don't forget to close the door on your way out. It's cold. :wave2:

You "win" because you refuse to engage honestly in any discussion.

In fact, you don't even engage.

You "win" because you completely ignore that which is simply and clearly presented and is an actual challenge to what you believe.

The atheist agenda is to apply as much camouflage to the truth as possible.

Yep. As the model predicted. Sea ice is melting, but the ice caps on land are getting thicker. For the reasons I mentioned. Greenland, and Antarctica, for example, are losing ice rapidly at the edges from melting, even as the icecaps inland are getting thicker from increased precipitation.

Greenland's ice-cap has thickened slightly in recent years despite wide predictions of a thaw triggered by global warming, a team of scientists said on Thursday.

The 3,000-meter (9,842-feet) thick ice-cap is a key concern in debates about climate change because a total melt would raise world sea levels by about 7 meters. And a runaway thaw might slow the Gulf Stream that keeps the North Atlantic region warm.

But satellite measurements showed that more snowfall was falling and thickening the ice-cap, especially at high altitudes, according to the report in the journal Science.

Glaciers at sea level have been retreating fast because of a warming climate, making many other scientists believe the entire ice-cap was thinning.

"The overall ice thickness changes are ... approximately plus 5 cms (1.9 inches) a year or 54 cms (21.26 inches) over 11 years," according to the experts at Norwegian, Russian and U.S. institutes led by Ola Johannessen at the Mohn Sverdrup center for Global Ocean Studies and Operational Oceanography in Norway.

However, they said that the thickening seemed consistent with theories of global warming, blamed by most experts on a build-up of heat-trapping gases from (32.00F).

And the scientists said that the thickening of the ice-cap might be offset by a melting of glaciers around the fringes of Greenland. Satellite data was not good enough to measure the melt nearer sea level.

To you, maybe. It won't go on forever, if warming proceeds. Eventually, the warming will start to thin the interior as it has thinned arctic sea ice.

People are jerking you around, because you don't bother to learn about this. It's worth your time.

Guys, not that I don't enjoy the show, but if you want to be taken seriously, it's time you got some facts together that might support your story.

Just saying...

Reminder:
It's about anthropogenic global warming. Find something that might make your position at least partially believable.

OK, that's cool. :)

Now, how did this happen in Australia?

During the Permian, most of Australia was south of the Antarctic circle, I think. (Barbarian checks)

Yes.

OK, so the question was:

Do you believe mankind is causing global warming?

Based on the 47 posts Barbie has upchuckled all over this thread, I think it safe to say that we can put him down for "yes".

But it appears that he's unable to accept that people might disagree with him.

So your answer is that Australia used to be a few thousand kilometers to the south whereas my answer is that it was a few kilometers higher.

Interesting. :)

And also note that we are not talking about Australia in isolation. We are talking about an ice age that affected every continent.
