It's only a can of worms when you confuse it between a commandment and a civil law. Divorce in the OT, and from which frame of reference Jesus spoke, was a civil matter and not a religious one.

I never truly understood the effects that divorce has on society until we began to accept step parenting as a normal thing, even to include unusual family combinations.
