I just read a very interesting article, regarding animal research. Here's an excerpt:

Some so-called anti-vivisection organisations would have people believe that animal research does not work. This is simply a lie. Animals do not give information that is 100% accurate when applied to humans, but they do provide invaluable information that cannot be replaced by computer modelling, cell culture or human experimentation. Mice have virtually the same genes as humans, which is why they are so useful for exploring human physiology.

If you looked at that video clip you would have seen that another example they mentioned was thalidomide that caused defects in babies. Not all adverse effects on humans are so dramatic as the drug that resulted in all six volunteers ending up in ICU. However numerous drugs have been taken off the market due to side effects.

A spokesman for the German company TeGenero, whose drug was being tested, said the results were "completely unexpected" and "did not reflect the results we obtained from initial laboratory studies".

Dr Benedikte Hatz, chief executive officer for the company, said the drug had been developed in line with all regulatory and clinical guidelines, and had been shown to be safe in earlier non-human studies.

The MHRA's preliminary findings appear to back up what TeGenero have said.

It said the drug being tested was given in correct doses and there was no sign of contamination or manufacturing errors, but added its findings were not conclusive and more tests were planned.

It added: "It would indicate that this product showed a pharmacological effect in man which was not seen in pre-clinical tests in animals at much higher doses.

So.., the testing on animals proved to be useless in the case of this drug. There are probably several others. Of course we don't hear about every case.

The bottom line is, though, that many of the advances in modern treatments for high cholesterol and heart disease came out of that research.

The high cholesterol myth continues to be promoted because of course it results in big profits for Big Pharma.

Many who profess to be Christians seem to be almost under the impression that God condones the use of drugs (all are poisons).

Pharmakeia is a Greek word found in the New Testament that means medication, pharmacy, magic, sorcery and witchcraft. Its root is pharmakon which refers to a druggist, pharmacist, poisoner, magician or sorcerer. God clearly states that Pharmakeia (the use of drugs) is a sin in Galatians 5:19-20a; "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these: Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry and witchcraft" (Pharmakeia).

How can it be 'Christian' to take drugs that have already resulted in numerous defenseless animals suffering and dying?
