Not everything about them was bad, though I agree to an extent, a lot of what they present as being beneficial to their society is evil, and not just according to our own societal standards.

Of course they're not. The point is, a 100 year old photo of dirty Irish coalminers gets the owner accused of racism, while an idiotic comicbook movie (which is seriously being touted for Oscars just because it's predominantly black) has within it many of the very same elements that are supposededly American evils...and they go entirely unnoticed by the very type of people who would screech about that innocent old photo.

Boy, isn't that the truth? I'm more amazed every day by what people find "offensive". Pretty soon all old pictures and books will be outlawed....old movies, too. :comeout:

also lazy thinking - i love watching jordan Peterson, ben Shapiro, candice owens, etc take questions after giving speeches - the quality of thought that comes from some of these people in the audience is discouraging, especially when you consider that they are often at venues (Oxford, etc) at which one would expect to find the best and brightest

I think they did discuss this. Killmonger accused the Wakandan monarchy of being xenophobic and cowardly for doing nothing for centuries to help their fellow black brothers and sisters oppose their oppressors. That was Killmonger's whole point of his coup, to level the playing field and arm the oppressed people of color to overthrow and kill their white masters.
On a side note Kill monger's plan makes no sense. Sure Wakanda has super high tech hardware but certainly not enough to take on the world powers all once.

opposing the white colonial oppressors is an appealing theme, i'm sure, and might have had some relevance back in the day of white colonial oppression
but can anyone argue that white colonials are still oppressing africans in 2018?
at what point do we say that war, disease, poverty, starvation in africa is a direct result of poor governance by black governments?
I tried to wrap my head around the rwandan massacre a couple of years ago and gave it up - it was too depressing to dive into - what i did realize was that the western world didn't turn away because they didn't care about black people, in large part we turned away because we were tired of being blamed, we didn't see an effective way to intervene in which we wouldn't look again like white colonial oppressors

Well, it's global now. The Chinese have their hands in quite a bit in Africa. There are over 10,000 Chinese companies with African operations today.

There is certainly that part of it. But foreign powers still have their hands of influence over Africa today. But now they do it through banking and corporations instead if having standing armies in African countries.
I thought they tuned away because it became too expensive to have direct control of African countries?

does development necessarily equal exploitation and oppression?
for example, what african nation has a record of independently developing vaccines and administering them to their own people?
that's part of it, along with the fact that we had (still have) no strategic interest in the area
now, if they discover deposits of vibranium, that's a whole nother story
