GT, what if you should stop being obedient for a season? Do you believe you'll lose your salvation and entry into eternal life?
Shall I distract him?
Yes, I can see where you would think that is bad news.I guess you didn't notice the bad news about that.
Romans 2:13
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
I couldn't stop being obedient. I hate what is evil and cling to what is good.
No ten dollars for you.

I'm sorry you see it as a cheap shot. It is my belief that teaching people that God created certain people to be damned and that there is absolutely nothing that Jesus can do for them is an incredibly cruel teach that runs contrary to what Jesus actually came to do. Jesus came to redeem ALL to His Father.Sigh.
Given your No vote in the poll, it is no wonder that you would take the time to weigh in with a cheap shot following my post above:

You cannot possibly know what Jesus did for those He came and died to redeem if you do not know who He is.

OR ........You are mistakenly thinking about the Pharisee instead of the publican from this story:
Luke 18:10-14
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
The Pharisee is unrepentant, much like the "faith alone" crowd.
The publican is the one that knows that he must change his ways because of what God sees in him.
Nope. These are the deeds of the old law that no longer purify:
The Burnt Offering; The Grain Offering; The Fellowship Offering; The Sin Offering; The Guilt Offering; Dietary Laws; Purification After Childbirth; Cleansing From Infectious Skin Diseases; Cleansing From Mildew; Discharges Causing Uncleanness; The Day of Atonement; Rules for Priests; The Sabbath; Firstfruits; The Passover and Unleavened Bread; Feast of Weeks; Feast of Trumpets; Feast of Tabernacles; Oil and Bread Set Before The LORD; the Sabbath Year; The Year of Jubilee; Circumcision.
Yeppers. You're still leaning on your own ability to be "obedient" and not fully trusting in Christ as your Lord and Savior.
The moment a person accepts Christ he is saved. This is immediate. And forever!
Romans 13:11 11 And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. |
1 Timothy 1:15-16 KJV
(15) This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.
(16) Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.
1 Timothy 1:13 13 Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. |
