I cannot remember where I heard this. If it is true or not in a literal sense makes no difference. It is the metaphor that illustrates a spiritual reality that is important.
What is Satan's greatest torment?
When satan's sin of pride separated him from God, God said," I banish thee." God Being God means that even his spoken word is beautiful. Satan's greatest torment is remembering those words and knowing that he will never hear them again!

Evil= being average?
The Bible says that only a few will be saved.
Evil is banal. Hitler was evil. But not recognized as such because he was so banal. Just as the many average Germans that instituted his plans. Anyway, here is Hitler at his most banal!
