Starbucks CEO: If You Support Traditional Marriage, We Don’t Want Your Business

At the Starbucks annual shareholders meeting on Wednesday, CEO Howard Schultz sent a clear message to anyone who supports traditional marriage over gay marriage: we don’t want your business. After saying Starbucks wants to “embrace diversity of all kinds,” he told a shareholder who supports traditional marriage that he should sell his shares and invest in some other company.

According to a report by Forbes, Schultz seemed a bit intolerant of any Starbucks shareholders who opposed gay marriage for moral or religious reasons. During the meeting, shareholder Tom Strobhar (who founded the Corporate Morality Action Center) pointed out that after the company voiced its support for a referendum backing gay marriage in Washington state, a boycott by traditional marriage supporters caused a drop in sales revenue. Schultz told him “You can sell your shares in Starbucks and buy shares in another company” if he did not agree with the company’s pro-gay marriage stand.

And clearly the loss of your business has put a MASSIVE dent in their profits.

This is old news, and even if it was NEW news, it would still be a smart business decision.

Where the majority of potential customers go, there go the businesses.
Aside from the few holdouts like Chick-fil-a, who are banking on the increase in business due to being seen "taking a stand"...but as expected, they will all eventually follow the money.

Yeah, I see now it was from Mar 2013---apologies for that; it came into my newsfeed and I assumed it was new.

In any case, the corporate direction is away from tradition and toward diversity

Many of America’s largest companies rallied behind the gay marriage cause on Thursday as the U.S. Supreme Court scheduled oral arguments for April 28 on the contentious social issue that promises to yield one of the justices’ most important rulings of 2015.

A total of 379 businesses and groups representing employers across various sectors, including Google Inc , Apple, General Electric, American Airlines Group Inc , Goldman Sachs Group Inc ) and Johnson & Johnson, have signed on to a friend-of-the-court brief in support of gay marriage due to be filed later on Thursday.

Makes sense. If you support traditional marriage, why would you invest in a company that publicly disagrees with your stance? Might as well be a part of the anti-gun crowd and invest in S&W.

I couldn't care less how old it it, it's good to know. Also, boycotts rarely work and have backfired for the liberal side a lot more often than they've succeeded.

BTW, how did you come upon Joe Miller? I supported him strongly last year when he was running for US Senate here--worked at his headquarters in Wasilla and so on. I'm so, so, so disappointed that Alaska elected yet another RINO instead. Miller also lost to a super-RINO in 2010. He actually beat her, the incumbent, in the primaries but massive funds pored into the State to support the witches write-in campaign. It was the first time in US history where an incumbent lost in the primary then came back to win. Some friends also say there was massive voter fraud in the write-in.

Actually, his piece came up in a newsfeed I had, which is why I didn't realize it was older news. I am sorry that Miller lost - voter fraud is a real possibility.......
