Rationale For "Halls of Fame"?

Well, when you put it that way it asks for a different treatment. Sure, I think that's demonstrably true.
All I was doing was taking the opportunity to make a tangential, by-the-way observation. Nothing more was meant by it.
I definitely think that the circus that would have come along with his making a team hurt him and that if he'd stayed closeted he'd be on a team or at least a practice squad.
I follow professional and amateur sports less (read: not at all) than anyone on this board, I'll wager, so I have no idea either way. But in today's atmosphere, you think the NFL - a business - decided to flip off the people who (let's be honest) wanted the guy to play primarily because he's homosexual? I'm really not too sure about that, but again, I know nothing about the sport.

That would be great. And bybee too. :) Anna doesn't want it but I think she'd be another good one.

Too bad the HOFers don't get to nominate.
From what I read anyone can send Knight a nomination. You provided the link where he set that out. :idunno:

Nah, go back to the "lookie"s and disguised gay slurs. That's more you. The reasonable side is a facade, a brightly painted door to a tomb.

Your continued animosity surprises me.
She said, only just having thrown out:

You forgot Randolph Scott. :)
Oh, sure. Eeset got a ban or two for making gay allegations centered around Cary Grant and Randolph Scott. She pretended it was all a misunderstanding. The mods didn't buy it.

Now and then she'll drop the name because she found out doing that won't actually get her in trouble, even thought her reference is understood and the insult carried with it shouldn't be missed by anyone.

That's the sort of person she is...worse, she's almost proud of it. Go figure.

 Yeah, it's a mystery why I hold you in contempt all right. Right up there with who made the pyramids.

TH (sorry you have never felt safe to reveal your actual name, to us mere TOL peons) . . .

Isn't there anything/something more important you could be doing with your time, intelligence, personality, and wit, than involving yourself fielding such internet crapola?

Why not move UP and AWAY somehow . . . ?

OK, OK I admit that I am amused by your hyper-sensitivity to anything that you perceive as a Gay innuendo. You seem to panic and thrash about. Here's a secret for you. I never knew the first thing about Randolph Scott except that he was some old cowboy actor. But after your freak-outs over Cary Grant I did some reading about his life and discovered the "buzz" about Scott and Grant. Suddenly the scene in Blazing Saddles took on several new layers of meaning. I suppose I should thank you for broadening my understanding of things Hollywood. ;)

I think Grosnick Marowbe should be considered for HOF.
It is almost better to have not been nominated than to prepare this stupid acceptance speech year after year (I have to keep changing the name to my new agent and pr guy, hoping I'll get it right, though it is unlikely I'll get on stage. I just keep getting camera pans and I have to smile and politely applaud when they call the winner).

I don't think I'd wish that on another except for perhaps that we might start an LHOF thread, which has nothing to do with Laughing Head Off Feverishly.

<smile, wait for the camera...milk it, milk it...there's poor Brother Vinny, didn't win this year, smiling through his clenched teeth....>
Lon's Acceptance Speech said:
I never really thought I'd get up here. Oh, this little HasselHoFfer is heavy! It'll look good on my moniker shelf on my homepage den. Oh, look at all the beautiful people this year. Hi Rusha, nice to see you. Oh, and there's TH with his lovely wife. Jack at home? Give him kisses. John W? Where's he? Oh there he is. Eat your heart out. Okay, first I'd like to thank the Academy of TOL membership that made this all possible and I'd like to thank Ask Mister Religion for nominating me. Of course it wouldn't be possible without Knight and the mod team thinking of it, and of course all of you who voted. This award validates my word craft and <something something about the specific post that won this award> I'd love to thank my lovely wife and children who shared their daddy and husband with the world, and most of all, I'd like to thank Jesus Christ for His saving work and making me what I am today. Did I leave anybody out? ....What's that? Ten seconds? I'd better wrap this up. Oh, and I'd like to thank my agent and PR guy (whoever they are this year) Together let's end world hunger....times up...Thank you, God bless and Good night.
<cue music, exit stage>

It's a work in progress.

You have thought wrong. Popularity.

Good point! However, popularity is merely a component of admiration. It can be abused as can any other component.
We had an orthopedic surgeon that was universally feared by all of the nurses in the operating room and disliked by many of the other surgeons, BUT, he was one of the best surgeons with whom any of us had worked. His results were phenomenal!
He wasn't popular and he wasn't really admired but, he was respected for the quality of his work.
TOL is cyberspace. I love it because popularity isn't one of the components in which I have an interest. I calls em as I sees em!
Of course, true to my nature, I am fiercely loyal to the friends which I have made over my years here.

Riiiight, because nothing say's haughty contempt quite like not revealing a thing virtually no one reveals on an internet forum. :plain:

Nang, between us you're the only one who actually believes she's too good for the crowd, the one doing all that heavy lifting that doesn't get the respect it warrants while I run for TOL rush chairman and on and on. At what point do you stop and actually listen to yourself?

Isn't there anything/something more important you could be doing with your time, intelligence, personality, and wit, than involving yourself fielding such internet crapola?
Some people golf, some people do crosswords (okay, I do those too) and some people only need a few hours sleep and spend a fraction of their day doing this.

Mostly I have fun and try to lighten the place. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. But that's baseball, isn't it.

Why not move UP and AWAY somehow . . . ?
It just kills you, doesn't it...here's the thing, Nang, satisfaction in life is like a pretty girl. You never win her by chasing her, really. Just be yourself, be happy in that and the rest takes care of itself.

You have thought wrong. Popularity.
The problem with simple answers is that they tend to serve another agenda, or: the most popular athlete of his day was Michael Jordan. He was also arguably the greatest basketball player in the world. And the most popular restaurant in the world is McDonald's, but almost no one celebrates their anniversary there.

Between those two facts lies the rebuttal. Popularity is always reflective of something. What that something is can't be dismissed by saying popularity, unless you travel in a particular circle.
