Rationale For "Halls of Fame"?

The list is here by year. I think it's by and large Knight mulling on things. I thought it was a nice gesture. I don't believe it signifies more than that, any more than I believe the reputation score is indicative of the value of a poster or a post.

The HOF roll call so far, alphabetically:

Adambassador, Angel4Truth, Ask Mr. Religion, bob b, Bob Enyart, chatmaggot, Chickenman, chrysostom, Delmar, ebenz47037, fool, ghost, godrulz, Granite, Hilston, john w, kmoney, Ktoyou, Lighthouse, Lucky, MaryContrary, Nick M, Psalmist, Rocketman, Rusha, SaulToPaul, Stripe, Tambora, TomO, Town Heretic, Turbo Poly, Vaquero45, Vegas Cowboy, Yorzhik.

That's the list so far...something went wonky in there toward the end, had trouble with the fonts or whatnot. Not sure what happened. :plain:

An eclectic and worthy group for sure!

Beware when men [unsaved, it's implied] speak well of you.

My Grandma, whom I dearly loved, was a woman of few words. She didn't give many compliments. Her belief was that a decent person does the right thing as a matter of course.
I always wanted to please her.

No. Are you projecting, jus' a lil'?
No, just seeing if you had a self deprecating sense of humor and could banter. Well, that one is in the books. :plain:

Among potential responses: no, but you know how those people are....democrats, I mean.

I can absolutely be self-depreciating. I just find nothing to laugh at with regard to the Empty Suit No Transcript Puppet of Destruction. But that's probably just me.

It wasn't about taking him seriously, but it wasn't a real statement you made, so it invited a nudge. Quote someone calling you a racist for asking that question.

So, recognizing the hyperbole I extended the opportunity to evidence that sort of humor. It would have been a good moment for you. The right are too frequently type cast as humorless and wound tight purveyors of anger.

Okay, to answer your inquiry seriously, I'm the founder of the first minority shared firm in my county. Didn't last when I went into poverty law and my partner decided to chase money, but there you go. No, not projecting. Okay, so the separate bathrooms might have had something to do with the firm break up, but you never really know. :plain:

I know you know what I meant but I'll rephrase it anyway.

There are those in our society who will say to question Obama for any possible reason - on policy, for example - is evidence of racism that the person asking the question won't admit to. They're the same ones who say the homosexual football player who didn't make the cut was rejected, not because he was deemed not good enough, but because he is a homosexual. Whether the people who say these things seriously believe them, or are just lazy ideological hooligans trying to shut down a discussion I'm not sure, but they do say them.

Kind of like the Oscars. It just happens to be a memorable moment and profound meaningful quote, and mostly in proximity to voting time.

Now to work on my standard reply: "It was an honor to have been nominated this year....something, something...still didn't get invited to the after-show parties....have to call my agent...no, I'm fine, really...:mmph:"

Just checking, this isn't an HoF exclusive thread...? No? That would have been awkward and embarrassing. Seriously, it's an honor to even be mentioned....

Well, when you put it that way it asks for a different treatment. Sure, I think that's demonstrably true.

They're the same ones who say the homosexual football player who didn't make the cut was rejected, not because he was deemed not good enough, but because he is a homosexual.
Some of them, but a number of people who aren't that political but who are football people raised an eyebrow over his failure to be anywhere in the NFL for a number of reasons that have nothing to do with politics. I definitely think that the circus that would have come along with his making a team hurt him and that if he'd stayed closeted he'd be on a team or at least a practice squad.

Whether the people who say these things seriously believe them, or are just lazy ideological hooligans trying to shut down a discussion I'm not sure, but they do say them.
Look, there's no shortage of bizarrely askew notions and drumbeats to be found on either side. The trick, I think, in separating from the impression of being among them, for any of us, is in taking the serious either absolutely serious or with very little gravity. It's the half life mixture that has most of us watching each other with a thin, almost paranoid suspicion.
