My own experiences with Psalmist (most of them here on TOL) were great. When my own father decided to drop contact with me, Tom and Violet (Mrs. Psalmist) took a high place in my life. I didn't talk to Violet often. But, Tom treated me how I wish my father would. My favorite memory of Tom was when there was a thread asking which M*A*S*H character different posters reminded you of. I said that Tom reminded me of Father Mulcayhe or Colonel Potter. He got a real kick out of that.

I will miss you, dear friend. The only bright spot of your passing is that I know you are now sitting at the feet of Jesus.

Worse news in a very long time. The world would be darker today if it weren't for the lights he started and nurtured in a life well spent.

A good and faithful servant, the best ambassador/exemplar of a humble, caring Christian walk TOL could have asked for, and a friend to anyone who wanted one. God bless him and shepherd his family through their loss.

One of many kind messages over our years.

Psalmist
- June 7th, 2014 02:10 PMReport

I always believe it's a blessing when we receive a word of encouragement, or instruction via the way the Lord chooses to to send it, I'm so glad it lifted your spirits and hopefully brought you comfort and some added joy too. Thanks for sharing that with me, its a witness of Jesus and serving Him.

I was reading a message by G. Campbell Morgan about Matthew 28:19-20, what touched my heart was "I am with you always." Morgan used the term 28 times, not the whole text but just, "I am with you always." And by the time I was done reading the message, it fortified my absolute trust in Hebrews 13:5, you the "I'll never leave you, forsaken you" absolute of the Lord. (My avatar is of G. Campbell Morgan)

Saw your son's pic on FB, they grow fast, he looks like a very happy well adjusted child, we think you're both good parents, your love for each other and Jack are proof of that. Psalmist (Tom) and Mrs Psalmist (Violet)

Pslamist was very creative with many of his posts here.

An example of one of his Christmas messages.

Mrs
Psalmist
and I send
you this for
Christmas, may
your cup of blessing
be so full that you are
drinking from the saucer,
may the porch light ever be
on so you can find your way
home, may you and your family
be a blessing to each other everyday,
and may a stranger know how really sweet
loving and kind you are. May this Christmas
be not like the rest, may this Christmas be by
the Savior blessed for He was sent to bring not
only peace and goodwill, but to bring that marvelous
gracious gift from the Father above, a light to all the
world and a great salvation for man kind, a better way.
Merry Christmas
to you and yours
Psalmist and Mrs Psalmist

"Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"

So sad. :(

His Christmas tree messages were always some of my favorites.

He encouraged me and often timely during heated posts when gentler and patient heads were needed, and a loving spirit more appropriate.

He was(is) very good at encouraging devotionals that uplift a soul.

In his/His words, I pray all find comfort:
We (Mrs Psalmist and me) feel the same, even though our family members are going through trials and some that seem like the furnace of affliction, our personal trials and etc., are far less, we have a confidence that is sure and certain ~ Jesus.

These verses came to mind...

Isaiah 43:2
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, nor shall the flame scorch you.

Habakkuk 3:17-18
Though the fig tree may not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines; though the labor of the olive may fail, aAnd the fields yield no food; though the flock may be cut off from the fold, and there be no herd in the stalls — 18 yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will joy in the God of my salvation.

Hebrews 13:5
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have.
For He Himself has said, "I will never leave you nor forsake you."

What great and precious promises that are Yes and Amen!

Dear ones, your love and kindness exceeds what a person could ask for, for it reaches where the soul is and is a soothing balm to dismayed hearts ~ Psalmist.

We know you all have things in your life to deal with, we are grateful and do thank you for your prayers, kindness and support, how blessed Violet and I are.

Psalmist (Thomas Ellis)

One of our most beloved members has passed away.

Please share your condolences for the family, favorite stories about Psalmist, perhaps a favorite post or thread of his that gave you comfort or even made you laugh.

I can't remember the exact thread but several folks were commiserating on what they thought was the esoteric nature of scripture and I was indelicate enough to refer to the proceeding as a "Gnostic circle jerk". He promptly offered me his once ever neg rep to me ... I'm guessing he had to google the term first ...

I took my medicine like a big boy.

He had interesting tastes.

Music? Mostly country. Lyle Lovett, Bonnie Raitt, Merle Haggard, Johnny Cash. But he also liked Dylan.

Movies? Sleepless in Seattle, Field of Dreams, The African Queen, It's a Wonderful Life, Rocky, Raiders, For a Few Dollars More, Apollo 13, Casablanca. All sorts of movies, really. Good ones.

Books? He was fond of Sherlock Holmes, Treasure Island and the writing of Mitch Albom.

TV? Frazier, Gunsmoke, The Honeymooners, The Waltons, CSI.

Just looking around in his old FB page. It feels like going through your grandfather's house after the funeral. Everything you see has a different weight and nuance to it...I really miss my friend.
