Well, there ya go, you could help Chrys with the list then (that's the initial comment/request) :)

Nah, *lists* are of no importance to me. Not only that, all of my views do not fall inline with what is considered typical for Agnostics/Atheists/Secular Humanist.

If I am required to have a label, you would probably say that I am a Calvinist - mostly because I believe that man has - at best - very limited free will. However, I was raised as a moderate Southern Baptist. :) Mostly I am a believer in, and follower of, Jesus Christ.

After these initial lists are all compiled, we can sort out the lists of people who are anti-____. Eventually we can figure out not only what list everyone is on, but also exactly where everyone falls in relation to the other lists.*

For example, we can check a list to find out what religion Cam is and how he feels about Jews. Or say, we could do a quick search to find out which TOLers are mostly likely to tell a Catholic to burn in hell. (Maybe we'll even be able to know if they'll be smiling when they say it).

Hopefully that will help us determine how to consider and interact with anyone at TOL before actually talking to them. Kind of like the "left-right" affiliation does with some folks.

*As a heads-up, Nazaroo will take a lot of work to categorize, so someone ought to prepare to put in some overtime.

Shhhh! Don't tell any of your 'friends' on that list that!

For those who are true friends, it would not matter. :)

Now don't tell anyone, but I have as many Christian friends as non-Christians. :D

(( God )) first called the Born Again, - “(( Christians ))” – I haven’t see anyone confessing to being a “Christian”. Just a bunch of ( Other ) divided people saying they’re: “saved”!!

O great one (thinking of Jackie Gleason) as thou siteth on thy throne of the (((all powerful/all knowing/ever present))) tell us what of thyself, what dost thou profess to be, thou who thinkest thyself to be the only person who is a born again, redeemed, washed in the blood of the lamb, a tried and true Christian. Listen O thou who has no regard for man nor beast, thou also must thyself stand before the throne of "Almighty God" and give an account of thy rude mean spirited attitude, and what wilt thou say in that day, Letsargue?

There are those few folks who don't have their religious affiliation at all (besides the folks who have "other.") I guess it's people who were here before it was required. I've wondered lots of times what the dynamic with people would be, how folks would treat one another and how conversations would develop if there wasn't left-right and religion required.

I think to a large degree, different bonds between people would form than do now, and I think a lot of conversations would be different. Overall, people treat me differently now that I'm not listed as Christian. That's all fine, it's expected. I'm certain that there are a lot of people here who would listen to me differently if my profile said "more right than left." but I said the exact same thing as I do now.

Me too. I don't get it...well, I do but it just doesn't work for me. I rarely 'fit' any label. I just sort of float around...like a bubble :chuckle:

:)

It doesn't bother me to self-identify in some ways, like calling myself Catholic, for example. That's going to be helpful to someone who doesn't know me if we're having a conversation regarding religion. I think the people here who want to self-identify, it's interesting to see what they have to say about what they believe or how they see themselves.

But there are drawbacks to that too, and think I understand those who don't use or rely on labels, maybe resist or downright don't like them - there's such a lot of freedom because they're not limited by others or even their own selves in how they define themselves and the world is wide open. I like the idea of that a lot.

And I think that's where a problem lies; when one puts a label on another, or if one demands that someone label himself when he doesn't want to. It's an intrusion into someone's personal autonomy, so I think if anyone here didn't want to be on a list and they were put on one, they should ask to be removed and chrys should respect that.

And speaking of lists, I'm on Choleric's heretics list but it doesn't bother me because his list has absolutely no meaning or value to me.

...so maybe that's not a very good omen for chrys. I don't know.

I think it's a normal thing for the human brain to do. We like to compartmentalise things...for example: when a new singer or actor comes out, we immediately compare them to another and kind of label them 'the new such and such'. It gives us a feeling familiarity and I guess a base from which to work.

I also think it comes from a sense of wanting to belong; to be a part of something bigger. To feel like we 'fit'.

All perfectly normal, I'd say :)

But I think some of us don't really 'fit' anywhere....at least, that's how it feels for me. It used to be something that bothered me but now I see it as a strength and kinda cool :)
