Presidential Third Party candidates

Why is it a waste?

Better question is how could you say voting for a person that has absolutely no plausible path to win would not be a waste? I don't like any of the candidates but, there are only two that have a plausible path to the white house and voting for a corrupt lying felon such as Hillary is not a choice at all.

How does that make it a waste? IMO it's a waste to vote for Trump because then the GOP won't die like it needs to and they'll keep giving us liberal candidates.

it's a waste to those of us who see a difference between trump and hillary, who see trump as marginally better

if you're not voting for trump, you're helping hillary win
If I'm not voting for Hillary then I must be helping Trump win by the same logic.

They're both liberals. I won't compromise my ethics and morals for a win.

It's the only way to vote NO!
Yup!

Maybe, but the third parties have a side of delusion. Gary Johnson seems like a nice enough fellow. Crazy, but likeable enough.
Are you saying that about these particular third party candidates or are you speaking in general?

"What is Allepo?" - Gary Johnson

Really bad moment. I read that his explanation was that he mistakenly thought the interviewer was using an acronym. Even if that's true it's a pretty awkward slip of the mind.
This piece says it might not matter that much.

Gary Johnson found himself in a presidential candidate's nightmare Thursday, when asked a simple question about the crisis in Aleppo, Syria on MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

"What is Aleppo?" the Libertarian candidate responded, prompting a wave of online criticism and ridicule that quickly made its way around the internet.

The timing certainly wasn't ideal: Mr. Johnson, who has hovered at around 10 percent in the polls, needs to reach 15 percent to qualify for the upcoming presidential debates. But the gaffe, while embarrassing, may not have a significant impact on the fate of Johnson's campaign, as experts say foreign policy doesn't typically play a large role in the outcome of elections.

Later in the day, the former New Mexico governor clarified his initial confusion, explaining that he had thought the interviewer was referring to an acronym – and that yes, he does understand the Syrian conflict.

"As Governor, there were many things I didn’t know off the top of my head," Johnson said in a statement. "But I succeeded by surrounding myself with the right people, getting to the bottom of important issues, and making principled decisions. It worked. That is what a President must do."

While Americans name terrorism and foreign policy as their second and third most important priorities in the 2016 election, their voting habits indicate that perhaps experience in these fields isn't seen as the most important qualification.

Republican nominee Donald Trump, a businessman whose foreign policy stances remain difficult to pin down, is neck and neck in recent polls with Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, a career politician with years of foreign policy experience.

And Bernie Sanders, who at one point in his campaign polled higher than Ms. Clinton, responded to criticism by the Clinton campaign regarding his "lack of knowledge on foreign policy" in February by suggesting that while foreign policy experience is an important strength for a presidential candidate to have, it may not be the most significant qualification.

Sounds more like sour grapes, the GOP does not give us candidates Lighthouse, people vote for them. That said there was a big field of candidates this time and all the others were rejected so, you can be like the rest of the sour grapes crowd and take your ball and go home, or take a shot with the nominee that was voted in by the people...it is as simple as that.

You do as you please but, I believe that a Trump presidency has a better chance at producing a positive result than the felon Hillary, in fact if any of the list of SCOTUS candidates that he has chosen are confirmed it is a win, I'll give the man a four year shot just for that.

I think that it takes a bit more than being a "nice guy" to serve in the highest office in the land, and the crazy part just makes him unelectable.

Two Libertarians going after one of their own?

I saw the interview of Johnson afterwards and was quite impressed with his answers (he didn't play the victim, he just said that he was thinking of a acronym).

If Johnson wasn't such a Godless heathen (and the Party that he represents), I'd vote for him.

I agree that trump is the better choice.

Gary Johnson will siphon off more than enough conservative votes to ensure a Clinton victory!

Trump can always return to his Celebrity Show, this time with his alter ego, Vladimir Putin - I understand that "the Donald" is a big hit on Russian television!

Well, I think there's a bit of delusion in any third-party run for President. Whether that's "crazy", I couldn't say.

I think it depends on the belief of the person. Any rational person running for a third party should know that their chances are slim at best. There can still be reasons to run and I'm glad that people continue to do it. Depending on the motivation I wouldn't consider it delusional.

:chuckle: I'm not a Libertarian going after my own. I didn't see any videos but it sounds like he's handling it pretty well.

That's right, Trump will be fine in his new reality role as President of the United States of America

One of the piranhas' on "The View" said to Gary Johnson "That was a disqualifying statement", to which he calmly replied "Fair enough" (like the socialists on The View would ever vote anything but democrat).

Again: Aside from his leftwing politics (Libertarians are leftwing), he sounds like a pretty standup guy.

He shouldn't waste his time going on The View.
