What is that righteousness of God revealed in the Gospel ?

Rom 1:16

¹⁶ For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.


¹⁷ For therein[The Gospel of Christ] is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.

Its the same Righteousness of God Paul mentions here also Rom 10 that many jews did not submit to Rom 10:3

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.


Now what is it ? This righteousness of God is the complete and faultless mediatorial/suretyship obedience, unto death of the Lord Jesus Christ. Its that being made righteous by the obedience of one Rom 5:19

¹⁹ For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one[Christ the sinners surety] shall many be made righteous.

This righteousness because it satisfied the Justice of Gods Government of the Law both preceptively and retributively it Justifies and makes righteous all the elect sinners Christ lived and died for ! Its this righeousness of God that is revealed in the Gospel !

Thats what the Ephesian believers had heard and trusted it in, the Gospel of their Salvation Eph 1:13, it has always been theirs Hid with Christ in God Col 3:3 and Jn 1:4

The good works of Trusting, Hearing and Believing the Gospel of one's Salvation Eph. 1:13 are only made possible by the Sovereign Work of God in His Sons / Children Eph. 1:4-5 Chosen to Salvation and belief of the Truth 2 Thes. 2:13.

And it's only by the Sovereign Work of God the Holy Spirit that His Vessels of Mercy Rom. 9:23, when they are Born of God John 3:5-6, shall be given hearing ears Prov. 20:12 to Hear the Word of Truth and Believe the Gospel of their Salvation Gal. 5:22, which reveals to them the Salvation that had already been given them in Christ Jesus, before the world began 2 Tim. 1:9.

But the works of trusting, hearing and believing that the carnal person does are merely works of the flesh that cannot please God Rom. 8:7-8.

Amen, the Grace and Purpose given the Called ones in Christ Jesus [His Sheep] before the world began is referring to the Everlasting Covenant of Grace Heb. 13:20 whereby Christ became the Surety Heb. 7:22 for all those Chosen of the Father In Union with Him, His Spiritual Seed, to be holy and blameless; to have forgiveness of sins Eph. 1:4-7. This speaks to the Gospel of Election. And the Peaching of Salvation by Election produces Faith in those who Hear it.


Titus 1:1-3

1 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God's elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness;

2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;

3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;


Acts 20:24

But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.

God's Grace and Purpose was Given exclusively to them, His Adopted Children Eph. 1:5, His Elect !

Does one need to understand the Gospel to receive it ?

The answer is no for men naturally may hear naturally and receive the Gospel naturally without understanding, as seen here in Christ parable Matt 13:

18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;

21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.

22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.

So yes men by nature can both hear and receive the word of the Gospel, however what they cannot do and do not do is hear and receive it and understand it and become fruitful in a conversion experience.

Thats why Jesus began this parable by saying :

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.

Now the word for understandeth here is the word in Rom 3:11 where it declares that naturally we dont have understanding :

There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.

And coupled with that none naturally seekth after God. This seeking is part of Faith which pleases God Heb 11:6

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

That seeking God associated with Faith that pleases God none by nature does. And so consequently none naturally receive the word with Faith, and thats what Jesus is saying and illustrating the Matt 13 parable on the sower.

The natural man can hear and receive it, but cant and doesnt understand it and become converted !

Does one need to understand the Gospel to receive it ?2

But now to receive the Gospel with saving fruit, fruit of conversion one needs to receive it and understand it. Matt 13:23

But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.



He that receives the word into good ground will hear it and understand it. What is the good ground ? The ground here is representing the heart.

Remember Matt 13:19

When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart.

And notice back in Vs 23 Jesus refers to it as good ground or a good heart, which none of us have by nature Rom 3:12;Jer 17:9. So the good ground is a new heart given in new birth Ezk 36:26 and this heart does something that naturally the heart of man cannot do or does not do, and thats understand the word of truth. Now does that mean they shall understand all truth at one time ? No it doesnt, but it does ensure that they will receive and understand all the truth God reveals to them at that given time. When they receive the Gospel revelation to Faith as in Rom 1:16-17 whatever part of the Gospel that is being revealed to them, they will understand it spiritually because it had to be spiritually discerned 1 Cor 2:14

Theres no such thing as to say people can spiritually receive the Gospel truth god reveals to them and they cant understand it, thats a contradiction to the word of God !

Theres no such thing as to say people can spiritually receive the Gospel truth god reveals to them and they cant understand it, thats a contradiction to the word of God !

So true, the Gospel is a Mystery that isn't given to all men to understand, but only to God's Elect in regeneration when they are made Spiritually Alive John 3:3-6 by the sanctifying Grace of the Holy Spirit. But all the rest are blinded to the Gospel, because it hasn't been given to them.


Mat. 13:11
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given.

2 Cor 4:3-4
3 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: 4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

The True Preaching of the Gospel entails the Eternal sphere of Salvation, whereby God's Purpose and Grace was given to all His Elect, Christ's Sheep, Chosen in union with Christ the Lamb slain before the foundation of the world Rev. 13:8, to have remission of sins Eph. 1:4-7 in the Everlasting Covenant of Grace 2 Sam. 23:5 whereby Christ was designated their Surety Heb. 7:22 from Everlasting or before the World began, to Save them from their sins.

This Covenant is also referred to as the New Covenant because it is being newly revealed in the Gospel to all God's Elect when they are born again John 3:3-6 and given Faith Gal. 5:22 to believe on Christ Phil. 1:29.

Now to do this, we cant shun to declare that Grace was given the saved in Christ before the world began ! Thats what the scripture says 2 Tim 1:9

The Elect Eph. 1:3-4 were Saved / Justified before the world began 2 Tim. 1:9.

Titus 3:7
That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

Made heirs because this Grace was given us [Elect] in Christ Jesus before the World began !

Now exactly who are these ones believing that the Gospel is the Power of God unto ? Paul tells us in 1 Thess 1:4-5

⁴ Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God.


⁵ For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but alsoin power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake.

Its the Beloved Election of God that the Gospel comes in the Power and and efficacy and energy of the Holy Ghost resulting in them believing !

Its the same ones he writes to them in another letter that they are again the Beloved, Chosen to Salvation by the Sanctification Power of the Spirit and belief of the Truth, which is the Gospel 2 Thess 2:13-14
